hi,

to make a long story short, i switched ashley's dry food from innova regular (it was making her constipated and frequesntly vomit) to natural balance green pea + venison. the constpation and vomiting went away, but since switxhing her to the green pea + venison, she has developed itchiness... scratching her ears, tail, and biting her paws. i think there is something in the green pea + venison she is reacting to. she never had an itching problem before i switched her food.

today i bought california natural herring and sweet potato - - i took away ALL the natural balance and gave her about 10 kibbles of the california natural. i know it can be dangerous to switch so suddenly, but i feel like she is having a reaction to the green pea + venison, and i don't know what to do.

she had a blood allergy test done, but the results won't be in for a few more weeks. i also made an appt with an allergist, but the earliest appt they had was jan 16th. i am so frustrated by all of this . . . i can't stand to watch her scratching herself.

anyway, my question is it bad to switch to switch over to the california natural dry this suddenly? i also give her a variety of wet, 2 cans per day.

thanks.

Sometimes switching food suddenly can cause a little digestive upset, so you may notice some loose stools for a couple of days until your kitty's body adjusts. That's the only possible problem that I'm aware of with sudden switches.

It really depends on your cat. I've switched both Bijou and Mika to different brands abruptly with no bad effects. Some cats will have loose stool until their system adjusts to the new food. If your cat had some issues (possibly allergies) with the venison and green pea, then taking it away completely couldn't hurt IMO.

I agree, totally! The reaction to a food change is dependent on the cat. Mine have never reacted to a food change. But as Yosemite says, if shes having that much of a reaction, I would get her off of it and on to something she can handle.

Dangerous not unless you have a rare cat with allergies to pea and venison... if she reacted badly just switch back..
