Ok I know you all have been patient, so here's a few of the new Charlie pics. Some with Keno. He's settling in fine as you can tell

I've seen a few of the aussie Ocicat breeders website - both look pretty good - do you need their website addys?

This sounds like me. I felt really bad recently when I was going through some recent pics and realized that my cat pics out numbered my pics of my kids and family almost 2 to 1.
If that isn't a sign of a crazy cat lady then I don't know what is.

Well they are numbered 7-23 right now and I only have 8 of them with a little description so I can tell what they are

Charlie is SO hard to photgraph cause he won't sit still. You get a good pic in view, snap the camera and its about a 1 second delay and when the picture reshows - half the time he's out of the picture.

DH and I worked together and one used the feather to get him to stay a little more still
I think there was about 10 other pics I had to delete cause they were not good.

That'd be great, thanks. Though I'm not sure about flying a cat from Aus to Canada when I go back.

GK,

I think Charlie's great! His whisker pads are huge...very becoming and I like the attitude he expresses in the pics. He knows he's a winner. One of his facial expressions actually reminded me of a Rex.....did you plan that?
Nice pics with the dog too.

Keep the pics coming as he grows up. You know we're all very interested.

Congrats once again on your new spotted companion!

Nope, but remember you have aby, siamese in the background of the oci's - so you might get a little of that "foreign" look at times.

I'll try getting a belly shot - didn't realize we didnt have that - may have to do a "in your lap" to get it.

I think I'll put him in the January show as a kitten and see what he does.

BTW which one do you think he looks "rexy"? (number)?

Charlie is very handsome, even as a cute kitten! Thanks for posting them (finally).

I have a question... do Ocicats have glitter like Bengals, or do only Bengals have this trait? His coat seems very clear and defined compared to some Ocicats I've seen, too.

They don't have "glitter" like the bengals (I think that comes from the ALC) but their adult coat is very slick and close laying with a sheen to it. The sheen would be more noticable in certain colors - the tawnys, chocolate, and cinnomins compared to the silvers, blue, fawns.

Oci's coats are more like the slick coat of the siamese.

Thank you all for the compliments. I can tell you in a short few days with him we will probably always have an oci in the house.

BTW he's 4 months old today and I just weighed him - 5 lbs.

No, sorry but he's all ours. Did you get my private message about the breeder and the swedish breeder? Also, check out Wild Rain cattery - I think they are based in California. Nancy has a lot of cats from her - perhaps she is willing to ship.

I know the Wild Rain and DotDotDot exchange a lot of cats/lines, so you might get a DotDotDot cat that way if she's willing to ship (or the lines).

Charlie is SOOOOO CUTE!!!

I'm glad to hear you'll be showing him in January. I had my fingers crossed on that one!

BTW, Bengals got their glitter from a domestic cat. ALCs don't have glitter.

Oh, which domestic cats have glitter? I figured it was the wild cats. Bengal breeders? Can you clarify this for us?

Tiff, the problem is that I got spoiled by all the close shows on the east coast within 2-3 hrs drive max. Out here you'd have to drive 5-6 hours or more and if Charlie doesn't win, then its a lot of money for entries/show hotels, etc. Now if he goes to a kitten show and does what his 1/2 brother did, then I'm not sure what we will do

There is another kitten show (different association) that will be the end of April - if I show him there he will turn 8 months old on Monday after the show.....that is really cutting it close

It was Millwood Toby/Tory of Delhi:

http://www.bengalpedigrees.com/showo...m=02T060182012

Jean Mill got him from the zoo in India and he's registered as an E. Mau. He is in the pedigree of every bengal that has glitter in their coat.

I know what you mean about the availability of shows. I live in NW Indiana, right over the Indiana/Illinois border and about 30 minutes from downtown Chicago and I STILL have trouble finding shows that are 2-3 hours away or less. I think there is a show once a month in that time frame for the rest of the year, but the shows are spread across three different associations! *sigh*

Tiff, but E. Mau's do NOT have a glitter coat - I've read almost every breed standard and know the basics. If I'm wrong, I'll admit it with written proof - the standard doesn't mention glitter coats. The ONLY cats I've read about glitter coats is the bengals.

I know the bengal breeders can enlighten us on this without me going on a web search

Ok the 2nd article does mention about the glitter in the bronze EM's but the standard (CFA) doesn't say it is glitter. I can see why the more reddish tones would be a "glitter" but I didn't think that is what the glitter in Bengals meant.

In the Oci's you have different shades of chocolate - and some have more of a reddish undercoat known as "hot" chocolate - but I would not refer to it as a glitter on the coat.

I didn't mean to imply that glitter is a part of the E. Mau standard. I admittedly know close to nothing about maus.

What I do know is that glitter in bengals came from Millwood Toby/Tory and he and his sister were used in Mau lines as well.

The first article mentions glitter in bronze maus too.

I agree, rufous(reddish tones) and glitter are two different things. Both were given to the bengal via their domestic ancestors.

Is Charlie a "hot" chocolate? Do you have pictures of the differences between the two?

Charlie's more of a medium chocolate with a hint of the reddish undercoat in spots. Some of Nancy's other oci's are more of a "hot" chocolate.

http://www.apophis.com/ocicats/woodykit.jpg - this is Charlie's 1/2 brother - Charlie is about his color right now.

http://www.apophis.com/ocicats/tomtom.jpg - this is Drum - he's got more of "hot" chocolate

http://www.apophis.com/ocicats/hotspot.jpg - another "hot" chocolate

This is Charlie's dad's picture:
