Okay this has been bubbling up inside me,, I'm am soo mad!!

I live in Hicksville USA,, it's next to Idiots R US hunting capital...

Anyways,, so the morons in this town love to hunt.. Which you know it's a way of life, we eat meat,, blah blah blah blah.. Anyways,, my issue is this.. Christmas eve I go to my cousins',, he has this big ol house,, and walk in, and the moron has a Stuffed Deer Head on the wall,, I'm use to this,, I live in Hicksville Redneck world... Then I see a overstuffed turkey (again used to it,, feeling bad about eating Turkey now at thanksgiving),, and then I see this Huge Mountain Lion fully stuffed on a shelf in his house,, I mean wild crazy looking stuffed.. I find out he went to colorado to kill it..

Okay people,, I'm a cat lover,, animal lover,, blah blah,, So I had major issues with this poor wild animal cat ancestor's carcass stuffed in his house... I mean it ruined my night, my appetite.. and now I'm just plain ticked about it..

Am I being stupid??? It's not my house,, it's,, it's just the idea..

I get sick when I see stuffed animals also. And a little freaked out by them still. Its one of those fears that are so stupid though. I have several relatives like that and I no longer go to there houses because I cant deal with seeing that. It just makes me sick.
So no you arent overeacting IMO. You cant help what bothers you.

No you're not overreacting. I'd be upset too. DH's dad tends to make poor taste jokes about cats once in awhile and it really irks me off but since he's the FIL I just swallow my anger and blow it off when I get home.( Thankfully I don't see him much unless it's a holiday) DH knows how upset I get about the things he says sometimes, but he just tells me it's ok honey he doesn't mean it, and then when we get home he just stays out of my way until I'm done ranting.

Well, I'm from hunting land too - although of course we haven't hunted for meat for a very long time. I grew up with the taxidermy heads, so I've really never had a problem. I have the head of a Dall ram that I hunted in Alaska when I was 16. But my DH doesn't like it, so it hangs in the garage!

But I didn't think you could just shoot Mountain Lions in Colorado. Was he threatened by the cat, or do they give licenses? I'm not too sure I'm crazy about that idea, although we do have them in our neighborhood, and I'm scared of them.

Well, if you're willing to eat it you can't really be upset that someone has the dead body stuffed on their wall. Is it just different because it's an animal you don't eat or because it's a cat...I don't understand the mindset that it's okay to kill one animal but not another.

But if something upsets you, then it upsets you. I have found that it's more useful to either politely request that it be moved to a different room or just ignore it, because someone who is willing to pay to go out of state and kill a bobcat just to decorate his house probably isn't going to understand why anyone would be offended by it.

among the moose and the deer
We have our share of moron hunters where I live too. You see these guys going out on their four-wheelers, stinking up the woods and thinking they are big manly hunters and they are the biggest wusses I have seen. Luckily most never shoot anything other than targets.

My basic feeling is that if you are hunting for SPORT then I have no problem. By that I mean that the animal is in its own environment and has a fighting chance to escape and not get shot. As far as deer go you have to realize that they have something in common with feral cats. Since they have no natural predators (at least around here) then left to their own they will reproduce to the point where there will not be enough food for all of them and some will starve. Feeding and TNR is not an option. So Fish and Game and/or Wildlife departments basically enlist the help of normal citizens to reduce the deer population. Not sure about mountain lions. We have them around here but as far as I know they cannot be hunted.

Now enclosed game preserves are a whole 'nother topic in my book. We had a case here recently where some jerk shot his hunting buddy, claiming he thought he was a moose. And -get this- the guy was an ex-cop!!!

My dad's been a hunter all his life, and it breaks my heart. He used to "joke" that he killed Rudoph on Christmas Eve, and the Easter Bunny on Easter... I just don't understand how on earth can anyone shoot a beautiful mountain lion!

Cheers, from

OKay here's my feeling on it I grew up in a hunting area and if you are going to eat the animal you kill its one thing but killing for the sake of the animals skin is a whole other ball game. ie we eat deer meat and turkey so the animal is not dying in vain but you don't eat moutain lions and they are an endangered species. And I have a problem with killing an animal for the sake of killing which with the moutian lion is exactly what he done. So I get where you are coming from and I personally would not go to someone's house if they were the type of a person to kill an animal for the sake of it.

When you said you lived in Hicksville, I figured you meant Hicksville, OH. Yes, there is indeed such a place and I live fairly close to it! I also think stuffed animals are gross, but especially a stuffed mountain lion. Why on earth would anyone stuff a deer? We have millions of them running around here- they like to run out in front of cars. Killing deer isn't exactly an event so unusual it would require stuffing.

No Vacancy...One on the way!
In WI deer hunting is good for population control. Out by my dad there are many deaths each year from people hitting dears on the highway. Where he lives its mostly young adults and teenagers who die. I am not talking like 3 or 4 deaths...Im talking MANY! If you dont die from the accident you sure do total you car! In WI, esp my area there are very few nautural preditors left for the deer and those that are left cannot keep up with the population of deer each year. So i am for deer hunting...and turkey hunting.

Mountain Lion hunting I am against. I dont care if they attack hikers or they dig in peoples garbage cans, I dont see what good it does to shoot them and stuff them. the should just be relocated! like snakes and possums!

hmm, the dear and turkey no issue, at least not much. People and me eat those. i would assume that the meat was dinner.

however the lion yea, i have issue, i have never seen or heard anyway say lion steak taste great.

I have no problem with hunting. i do have a problem with people that kill stuff they are not going to eat, just to hang it on a wall.

If your not eating it then theres no reason to kill it. IMO Though I still dont think you should stuff it only because its icky having stuffed things in your house. I get freaked out by a stufed cockatiel a friend of mine has. It was her old pet that died and she had it stuffed. I dont like stuffed things.

No-your not over reacting!! I probly would of gotten sick too, and not been able to eat. Ya know its one thing if the "kill" is for food-but just to "look pretty" or whatever-NO
that really bothers me too. In fact coming from Hicksville,USA as well(yes people do that crap around here as well) the other day when we were at DH parents house, his dad was talking about a guy they all know that trapped a 33 lb bob cat(for NO reason) and how that was a big cat, blah blah.......and he also trapped a 60 lb beaver(once again because thats considered big) So anyways-after we leave, I ask DH what the purpose of the trapping was, and he said the guy SELLS the fur and stuff off of them!!
That really irked me after hearing that.

I have no problem with hunting, as long as you are hunting for food to eat. However, I hate when people hunt just for the sake of killing something or to have the animal stuffed, as was the case with this poor mountain lion
or for their fur
All I can think about is my poor loving boy Carmelo. Yes, you can hunt mountain lions, as well as bobcats, which is a shame. The stupid thing about that is, you can hunt and kill these animals, but many people want to make it illegal to own these animals as pets. This is just stupid. It makes me happy to know that my cougar and bobcats are safe and happy and will never have to worry about some hunter killing them for the pure joy of making the kill, to have them stuffed or wear their fur

That would bug me to. I am a city girl, so anytime I go out to the country where hunting is the norm, I get kinda freaked out because I am not used to it. I still have that naive way of thinking that hunting is kinda sad for the animals...
