Hi guys!

Hope everyone had a great x-mas!!

I was wondering if you guys knew of a good source (website), or a good book that could teach me on how to train a new cat or kitten?

Any suggestions would be great!

Thanks!
Barry

Hi Barry!

I think we (TCS) are better than any book I've been able to find on cat behavior, with the combined experience of thousands of cats.

What exactly are you attempting to train your cat to do?

The one main rule is: forget everything you know about training a dog. A cat is completely different. Cats are trained by convincing them they want to do what you want them to do, not by fear of punishment or desire for a reward. They have not been bred to be particularly obedient, nor do they need to be, as they are not pack animals and they come pre-house-broken for the most part.

Barry, a great book about cat behaviour is Think Like a Cat: How to Raise a Well Adjusted Cat - Not a Sour Puss by Pam Johnson-Bennett.

Is there anything specific that you would like help with, as far as "training" goes?

I'll move this to the Behavior Forum, where others may have additional resources for you.

There's nothing in particular I'm looking to train yet, as I don't have the cat yet.

What I need is a book I think, so I can get a good overall understanding of what's needed!
I know this site is awesome, and I plan on asking question in the future for sure!

So, thanks for the feedback...if anyone else has more information, that'd be great!!

Thanks.
Barry
