I got to thinking as i was doing laundry, how does scents from blankets and stuff affect an asthmatic cat? I mean i know the litter has to be unscented but what about blankets? I use a blanket for isis in her hidey hole.
I use a detergent that kills dust mites. It's better for both of us, and has no added scent. This, and the air filters, has done wonders to lessen Gizmo's asthmatic attacks.
Absolutely can cause problems. My wife has an allergy to some of the scented laundry detergent and I used to be allergic to one of Tide's scented detergents when I was a kid. (though admittedly I was allergic to just about everything as a kid besides peanut butter).
Perfumes trigger my asthma, so they probably aren't good for your kitty, either. The synthetic scents are the worst. When I'm around Lysol, my bronchial tubes close up...
