Ok So Deuce has had a UTI for a while now. I took her to the emregency vet about 4 weeks ago. Thye put her on Clavamox for 14 days. At the end of the fourteen days she seemed better. About a week and a half later i noticed that she was begining to strain again. So back to the vet we go. This time I took a sample with us. The vet said that there was a lot of blood in her urine, but there were no crystals, and her ph was 7.0. She put her on baytril for 7 days. I thought at the end of the 7 days she seemed better, but called the vet to ask for another round of antibiotics just to make sure we got it. The vet prescribed another round. On the 9th day I noticed blood in her urine AGAIN. So I called the vet and they switched her to Zeniquin for 10 days. The vet said that if this does not clear it up she may need surgery.

My question is this. Have you ever had a cat that took this long to cure a UTI? Is this something that I should be concerned about??

Deuce seems to be fine otherwise, she is eating, and drinking and using the box regularily. I took her temp and it was 101.4

Do you have any suggestions? Should I be concerned that this is taking this long to treat? Any words of advice? I guess I just need to hear from others that have experienced the same thing I am now.

Thanks

Is it possible that the infection is viral, rather than bacterial? If so, antibiotics would not help. Or heaven forbid, maybe it's not an infection at all... maybe there's something more serious going on. Maybe it's time to get a second opinion.

I hope your kitty feels better soon!

They took a urine sample. And it showed that she does have a UTI. It showed alot of blood cells, and bacteria in her urine. Vet says that she may just have a really bad strain. And it probably did not help that i let it go for about a week. Which could have helped it grow into a bigger infection, and alot harder to cure

I don't know if I can be much help, but I have read in several places, that cats prone to UTI's do better on just wet food. Or at the very least 50/50 wet/dry.

That sounds kinda like what was going on with Lucky and then we found out he had cancer. I hope that is not your kitties problem. I hope she gets better soon.

It sounds like Deuce may have what is known FLUTD Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease. This is appearing with more and more frequency lately and really they recommend cats suffering from this have surgery. Before you decide to have the surgery please know there are risks. This website will direct you to a place where you can get more answers, and perhaps find a mailing list so you can talk to others whose cats have had to have this procedure.
