I can't be the only one (Illegals in America) - Page 4

If I were living in Mexico..........I would try my damnest to get to America...
Legal or not... The worst case scenerio of poverty in America on welfare is much better living conditions than being a poor person in Mexico.

I have absolute empathy for the illegals who come here to work and send money home.. It is not all about crimes they are committing. Believe it or not, that is the minority. This is America, the land of the free and I am proud to be here. We are a diverse people of all creeds and cultures and I believe anyone should be allowed to work here if they need/want a chance to be something. The illegals are not the ones on welfare in America. It is the Americans.

As far as "stolen" social security cards.......that might be how it is reported but I got new for you guys.... In south Texas and in all bordering states, their are TONS of nice legal Americans selling their soc numbers over and over for 1500.00 to 2000.00 to the illegals. If the illegal gets caught, they call it stealing... I have different views on this than most.

I consider myself an empathic person of the down trodden no matter where they are from and also feel this is a great thing. I have fed homeless and I have sheltered many kids of many creeds. Some without papers. Some of you should be ashamed. It is a sad world and it makes me sad when I read some of what has been written. You should never judge a man till you have walked in his shoes.

Just because it's on the news doesn't make it right or rightous.

In the very same paragraph, you say:

I call that extremely contradictory. Perhaps it is you who should be ashamed, not having walked in any of OUR shoes.

This board asks that these threads not get personal, yet you feel comfortable in telling us how we should feel, while we are simply giving our opinions and not telling others how they should think/feel/be. (And so now I am guilty of the same, freely admitted in my ire.)

Not all illegals are downtrodden, in fact, some are making enough money to send home thousands of dollars IN CASH, while lots of Americans are homeless through no fault of their own, and feed their children what little they are able to obtain instead of eating themselves. I know - I was once one of those homeless, single mothers on welfare, who went as long as a week with no food in my belly so my daughter could eat.

Shame on me? I don't think so!

Illegals are not on welfare because - get this - they are ILLEGAL. What a concept - harsh, I know. What do you know of real struggles? You have SYMPATHY for them, not empathy. You would have to BE an illegal to experience true empathy. You WOULD have to walk in their shoes - have you? Are you, in fact, an illegal, and this is why you take this position and condemn us for feeling as strongly as we do?

Pleae keep the remarks impersonal, folks. There's no need for recriminations.

I don't know why there isn't a big ICE crackdown on the people that produce the phony SS cards. No papers, no jobs. No jobs, no reason to be here.

I work for a company that employs many immigrants from Mexico. I KNOW that 90% are illegal. We take photocopies of their SS cards and other ID. I can pretty much tell which SS cards are fake. I could probably also find a person to sell me one of those fakes in a half hr. or less. I have told all this to the Sheriff's Dept., but nothing is ever done about it.

I have worn many hats and walked in many shoes [when I had shoes to wear or a hat to put on my head]. I don't judge anyone but I do FEEL for anyone struggling. If someone is able to help their family with thousands of dollars when they are poor, I say more power to them. That is a wonderful thing for someone to love their family that much.

I won't come back to this thread. It is pointless. I will continue as I am and other will continue as they are..

This is a teriffic article about immigration today vs. immigration during the "Great Migration" prior to 1920. It is a very long article, but well worth reading if you really want to understand the situation in depth.

The article makes a lot of very good points.
Another, older article from the same site is also worth reading: http://www.city-journal.org/html/16_...on_reform.html , as it puts the costs of illegal immigration to various communities into concrete terms.

Anybody advocating an open border policy should read them.

Those are excellent articles. Thank you both for posting those!
