I saw something sad Saturday

So Saturday I was driving out to my in laws, and this little squirrel runs his FASTEST to get across to the other side of the highway, and finally makes it and out of nowhere this mean ole' hawk swoops down and attacked him!! It was so sad. I felt so sorry for the poor lil guy......

Ah, I'm so sorry. Try to remember though, the important thing isn't that the squirrel died, but that he lived life to the fullest while he had it. That's all we can do.

And the hawk lived because the squirrel died. Nature seems cruel at times, doesn't it? I always have mixed reactions to nature.

Its the neatest thing seeing nature at work.
sad for the little animals who become meals (esp that lil guy who worked so hard to cross the highway).
We have hawks who come and look for food in our yard becuase we have many bird feeders and we attract large number of birds daily. every now and then we can see them getting a meal.

I'd blame human interferance. If the highway wasn't there in the first place, the squirrel's chance of survival would have been higher. On the other hand, the hawk is probably grateful the highway makes hunting easier.
