I just came across this thread after being gone for a couple of days. I'm so happy for you and Nakita---I actually got teary-eyed. That pic of your girl was just beautiful; what amazing eyes she has! Still sending lots of vibes dear Nakita's way, hoping for a complete recovery.

It is good to hear the good news about Nakita. What a wonderful Christmas present for both of you.
I hope that your lovely girl stays healthy and stays with you for many years to come. Happy Holidays Nakita and Nakita's Mom!

Kass, I'm glad Nakita has started showing signs of improvement. I know you've been concerned about her for some time, and she will continue to be in my thoughts and prayers.

Thanks Heidi!
We had a very quiet Christmas over here.

Just an update and to thank everyone again for sticking with us on this journey.

It's been touch and go over the holidays. I force fed her last Thursday, Friday and Saturday morning. We ran out and got some Innova Evo which she loves and she's been eating it. She hasn't eaten 1/4 cup a day yet (her regular amount) but she's getting there. She's so small right now, but has gained 0.25 lbs since last check. It's going to take a while to get the weight back on since I'm sure the bad teeth also decreased her eating over the last month or so.

She *hated* being fed by syringe and between last Monday's dental, force feeding and giving her the Prednisone I think she now hates me. She basically stays in a box we have for her in the living room because she knows it's hard for me to get her out from there.

We took her to the vets in order to get another blood sample to verify her red blood levels. Last Monday they were at 14.9%, last Thursday they were at 21% and we're not sure what today's tests will show. For a regular cat they should be between 25%-45%. Since we haven't had annual blood test for Nakita, we're not sure at this point what is 'normal' for her or when these values changes. Here's another good reason to get annual blood tests - so you have a baseline from earlier tests.

It's so hard right now seeing Nakita avoiding me. She's never held a grudge before and always looks for pets and snuggles throughout the day. Now, she has stopped sleeping with me at nights and just looks at me with fear in her eyes.
It's literally breaking my heart since Nakita has always been my shadow and followed me or wanted to be near me all the time. My poor girl - don't you know I'm just trying to get you better?

I don't blame her at all, I would be a recluse too if I had blood drawn on 3 different occasions and had two teeth extracted and had post-op pain.

Tomorrow morning we should have the test results back from the lab. If the values have fallen, we will need to start more testing and medication trials. Please keep those 'healthy vibes' going for Nakita.

If anyone wants more info about anemia in cats here is a good overview:

One nice thing that did happen at the vet is that they placed Nakita's Christmas card right at the front desk (the others are located at the back of the office). They said it was such a pretty Christmas card they wanted to display it right at the front of the office. The front desk staff said they are getting comments on it all the time. It made me smile, which hasn't happened often over the last few emotional days.

Healing headbuts and get better soon licks from KittenKiya's Clan. So happy to hear of the advances being made.

Nakita knows that you are doing all that you can for her. You know how kids are.....do I have to go mommy???......Nakita loves you. You keep up the good work, you have done a herculean task already. Many vibes to keep the good news coming in.

Sending lots of healthy and happy vibes to little Nakita!
She will forgive you, Kass. She knows that you are trying to help her, but just like a little kid she still doesn't like it.

Fingers crossed for the test results, I know how heartbreaking it is to watch a much loved cat hide from you cos of meds, I do hope that she wont need them much longer and that you can gain her trust again.

Nakita still loves you Kass! She just doesn't feel well. She is anemic and isn't eating much - so she has no energy. She's not looking at you with fear - she's scared of what she has to go through to get better. And because you're being such a good mommy and doing what you have to do despite how you and she feel about it, she'll be your shadow again real soon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kass, Nakita is just tired. She is stressed, she doesn't feel very well, and so of course she is avoiding you. My cats will do this to me when I have to medicate them or take them to the vet for invasive tests. It passes as soon as they feel better, which I hope will be soon.
