I read in a previous post (about cats peeing) that vodka can be used to eliminate odor but the thread was ended before the subject was discussed, and i was curious about it. How much vodka do u need to use, on what (clothing? bedding?), does the VODKA smell linger, what if the cat enjoys the smell of vodka, and do you use it with detergent ? Help please =]

I do remember hearing that about vodka when I worked at the SPCA, but I thought a better option would be to drink enough of the vodka that you no longer care about the cat odor.

I've heard good things about ZeroOdor. It's the only odor eliminating product I've used, so I can't really compare it to others, but it seems to do the trick.

Does anyone know how to get rid of the smell of cat pee in carpets?

Advice The best stuff to get rid of cat urine is something called Pet Fresh by Urine Off (www.petfresh.co.uk). It just saved our carpet. Advice Cat pee can be cleaned up with cheap vodka – the alcohol breaks down either the proteins or the fats (can’t remember which) that cause the smell. A few drops of sweet *orange essential oil in it will stop your cat going near again.

it might work.
the acidity of the alcohol might counteract the ammonia in cat pee, which is very basic. It would neutralize.

but still, waste of liquor and you'd probably be better off buying something designed for the job.

In addition to an cleaner with enzymes it's useful to spray the area with some sort of spirit afterwards (when it's dried) to help get rid of any lingering odour - you could use vodka but I think I'd rather drink the vodka and use cheaper surgical spirit!

I sure hope it was a joke! What a breeder friend (of siamese) found was to use plain club soda. It will nutralize the urine.

But I use Nature's Miricle to clean up any pet urine or throw up. Sometimes you might need to do it twice, but it works well.

Well, I've used lots of different things and yes, the vodka does seem to work. So does vinegar. For both you just wet a towel with it and wipe up the area. I usually use a spray bottle. Lightly wet the area and let it sit for a minutes before wiping it up. The smell of the vodka/vinegar only lingers until it's dry.

Of all the things that I have tried Natures Miracle is the only one that has worked. Hunny bun used to pee on the couch before we got her fixed and occasionally fuzzy would do it also. I Natures Miracle after using like 5-7 different cleaners and they have yet to pee on the couch again . I used this stuff like 5 months ago. I have noticed though the because of Luckys condition there is sometimes a little blood in his urine and if you dont see it right when it happens it doesnt get the blood out very well.
