Ok I have 3 cats, and 1 of them is scared to death of most everything. Ive had her for around 9 months, and i can pet her and all, but if someone comes near her even walking, she runs away. She doesnt like to be picked up either. She is just REALLY scared, and it makes me upset because when I can get to her, she loves when I pet her tummy and she rolls around. Ive tried everything, but nothing works. Is it just her natural personality? Is there anyway to change it?

My Cinders is like this - we've had her since she was 3 months old and she's now 16 months old. How old is your baby? We've discovered that Cinders loves to be brushed - so much so that she has become braver and provided someone is holding her brush, she will go to that person and ask for brushes. Perhaps you can encourage her to not be so shy by encouraging him/her to hang around with treats?

As for the picking up thing - Cinders squeaks whenever we attempt to pick her up - it's as if she's saying "Oh my God! My feet are leaving the ground!!"

Her sister, Bella, on the other hand, adores being picked up and cuddled. I think you will find that some cats liked to be picked up and others don't

I have 2 shy cats, age 3 and 10. They have always disappeared when strangers are in the house with rare exception. The times they come out is when the stranger is very quiet, doesn't make any fast motions, and just shows a calm disposition. My 10 year old has been seen by 2 people. My 3 year old by about 3. But they are the biggest love muffins when it's just us and I accept them for what they are. They come to me on their terms and don't like to be picked up.

If you want to encourage them, the people need to be very calm around them. Mine always sit on my lap when I watch TV. The times they have come out with strangers were when they were sitting quietly and watching TV.

My cat will come up to me sometimes and meow, which I assume means "pet my tummy" but not too often. So I assume its just a personality thing?

Very well could be. Some cats simply have their selected human and don't want much from anyone else.
