Before I go on, I will state to all of you that I would NEVER, ever put Gizmo in harm's way.
I'm well aware that chocolate is deadly poison to cats and keep it strictly away from her.

However, Gizmo seemed to be very interested in chocolate when I was eating it. I would chase her away when she tried to climb on the table.

This weekend I was wrapping Christmas presents, some of which were chocolates. I get them from a local confectioner who packs the choccies in a bag with white tissue paper.

The chocs never touched the paper. They are all in plastic wrap, sometimes in tinfoil inside the plastic packages.

I saw how much fun Gizmo had with her tissue paper, and since that was pretty well torn up I gave her the white paper that came in the choccie bag.

To my surprise Gizmo went crazy with delight, rolling herself up in the paper and kicking it as if she was 'on' the finest catnip.

She was fine later that day, and she is fine today. She never came in contact with any actual chocolate, only the smell.

Has anyone else had this happen?
I think I will take some of her less played-with toys and 'marinate' them in a chocolate box for a while if it is safe!

My cat Ducky will come running if he hears anything that remotely sounds like anything being unwrapped, sounding like the foil coming off of a Hershey kiss! I didnt know chocolate was toxic to cats before and would give him the tip off of a kiss. Now he cant have it, but 3 years later he still comes running to the sound.

Our tortie LOVES the smell of chocolate and reacts like it is kitty nip (which she adores too). She's particular though ... she only really likes the smell of DARK chocolate.

When we unwrap a york peppermint patty, we let her roll around with the foil for awhile and she just loves it.

We have to be sure to secure any chocolate though because she will definitely get into it

Bingo! Gizmo is interested in dark chocolate. But then again that's the only kind I'll have in the house.

I'm glad to hear that my cat is not completely insane or suicidal. I will let her play with chocolate-flavoured tissue paper and will try 'marinating' her mice in the same chocolate boxes to see if that will help her play with them.

Nutty girl. But she's not alone, at least.

Yes, I've already informed Gizmo that if someone would tie a dark chocolate bar to a fishing pole and wave it around the room, I (and most humans) might get to chasing it for exercise!

One of my cats in Europe had a nice relationship with our neigbour it usually involved the kitten eating his chocolate bar when he loked away. He would be holding it in hist hand, the cat jumped next to him and ate half of it when he looked the other way. I had learned about that a few weeks after it started, I would not have allowed that, but the cat was never sick, the chocolate did not do anything to him <luckily> . The neighbour was then advised it is not the best thing to do and that I would appreciate if he did not give him anymore chocolate since it was supposedly deadly to cats.
However, I would never give a cat chocolate, it may not affect some but that is just the thing you do not want to experiment with.

My friend's dog ate chocolate and still eats it without ill effect. I don't think it's worth experimenting with.

My late dog Peaches would not eat chocolate when it was offered to her. Smart dog.

Gizmo will be allowed to play with chocolate-smelling toys and papers, but that is it.

One of my cats named tippy loves to eat brownies. My dad always gives her a little taste. She gets mad if he doesnt. She also like to eat a little chocolate ice cream. She has never gotten sick from it and is about 10 years old.
