Hello,

I am wondering if anyone has some advice for me...

I have to cats, one is a few months old and the other is a year old and is ready to graduate on to adult cat food. Since neither of my cats eat all of their food in one sitting, I wil wondering how I can get my cat on cat food without the kitten eating the cat food. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

Just caught this thread. I think the reason that no one has answered is because there isn't an easy solution for you! If they are both free feeding to some extent, they will always get into each other's food unless you keep them separated. In my household, I've had times when I've had cats from young kittens thru adults thru seniors. RIght now I have 2 seniors and the rest adults.

If the kitten can't get on top of something that the adult can, you could put the adult cat's food up high. That doesn't prevent the adult from eating the kitten food.

If you feed them special meals (such as canned food once in a while), you could buy different kinds and feed them their own food, then take away the leftovers.

I simply buy a food that is most generic to all of their ages and leave that out for free feeding, then feed them special needs once a day with canned food.

If you keep both of yours on kitten food, the worst that can happen to the adult is that it might get chunky until the kitten is ready for adult food. A bit of extra play (exercise) in the mean time might help.

Good luck! I'm sure there are better nutricianists that will come along to weigh in on this.
