Pat
I'm so sorry to hear this - I'm sending many many prayers to you both
It's true that more Persian's get PKD but of course, you know, that it's a disease that can affect any cat. People get it too. And it can strike at any age. Hallie was only about 4 years old when she died. Hallie was also very vocal. Especially when she wasn't feeling well. It's almost as if they are trying to tell you something is wrong. When I picked up Hallie from the ariport, the woman that transported her mentioned that she thought something was wrong with the cat. I told her that yes, Hallie had PKD. She then said it made sense the way the cat was acting, looked and how she bonded with her. The transporter explained to me that she also had PKD.Originally Posted by Pat & Alix
Thank you very much for sharing this. I will be having a detailed discussion with my vet when she gets back on Friday as to how to tell when it will be time..knowing that it may be different than say when Joshua had cancer (lung) so I knew to watch for respiratory distress. I only took Tippy in for some mild weight loss (under a lb.) and being "quiet"...sl. decreased appetite. That was it...occasional barf...he's a happy kitty who had only changed in that he was asking me for more attention lately. I just knew something was wrong, but this? Never dreamed. He is a shorthair domestic w/no look of persian ancestry - long, lean big, big boy.
I will do my best to know when it's time, but to give him all the good time he has left.
I SO agree with you! Enough already!!!!!!!!!!!!!Originally Posted by Pat & Alix

Thank you, I'm trying to lecture them that we find them all exciting enough that they don't need to keep surprising us and our vet with something new!Originally Posted by tuxedokitties
Sending prayers for Tippy to feel better.
And for you, you've been through so much with your kitties lately!

Glad Tippy is eating better. Don't be surprised if he stays on the thin side. I believe this is pretty common. Hallie was a tiny skinny minnie the whole time I had her. Even when she was eating really well. I hope Tippy continues to immprove and responds to his meds. Bless his little soul!Originally Posted by Pat & Alix
Thank you both for asking. Tippy seems quiet, but then he's on pain meds, so part of it may be that. He is eating better, and throwing up only very, very rarely.
He's on pepcid and calcitriol for the crf that the pkd has caused, and in about a week, will have his labs drawn again and a doppler bp taken, so we can see if the calcitriol is helping the crf or if he's worsening, and to check what's happening with his pancreatitis.
I think he's a bit thinner even with eating better, and sometimes I think his rear legs seem weaker, but then I am worrying and watching him like a hawk. I'll be very interested to see what his weight is next week.
ps once we have the bp checked, we can move forward with either norvasc (she prefers this if his bp is high) or benzapril as another aid for the crf.
