He has bladder cancer. This is apparently very rare in cats. We took him to the vet for what we thought was a UTI and got medicine for it. Then there was still blood in his urine. So we took him to the vet today for an observation and found this out. I am very sad. Lucky is really the sweetest kitty that I have ever met. He nose cuddles an kisses me. Basically all we can do is get him pain medicine and see how he is. If he isnt okay the only other option is to put him down. I will not do this unless I absolutely have to. This really sucks...

Oh sweetheart, this is just terrible. Very sad headbuts and tearful licks from KittenKiya's Clan. I wish there was something we could do.

Oh no....that is heartbreaking.

Please use us as a shoulder to lean on,
as you and your baby go through this.

Calm, loving vibes are on the way to you & precious Lucky.

Thank you. I just feel so bad. I just want to give him all my attention but that makes me sad when I think about it...

Just hug him and love him and pet him and enjoy the time that you have with him. Damn this hurts.

Thank you and *hugs*

All that my vet can give us is a prescription for Feldane... Or Felidane. I cant quite read his handwriting.

Has anyone else had some sort of experience like this???

That is so sad and hard to deal with. I hope that you find a way to at least make him comfortable for however long he has left, and I hope that it is a while.

My boyfriends mom said that she thought the vet was hinting at like a year but it could be way longer or sadly less. I am thinking of taking him to a different vet... maybe one that will dig a little deeper than this one.

I love him so much and I dont want to lose him. He is very playful lately and there isnt a lot of blood in his urine. Just sometimes...

It isnt helping that one of my other kitties has been being very hostile towards well all of the other kitties... he has been picking on pinky .. and lucky a lot lately. I dont know what his problem is. I wish he would be nice to him...

Cats can smell when someone is sick. They dont smell like "normal". Is there a place where you can put Lucky and Pinky together and get away from the other kitty. Just to give him some peace right now. Maybe someone else can advise you on using vanilla to help neutralize their smells.

Well. I have all of luckys food an a litter boxi n the bedroom and he enjoys sleeping on kennys pilolw and in my closet. He is sort of getting away from fuzzy. I can always shut the door. Right now things are sort of peaceful because they are all sleeping.

Here are a couple pictures of Lucky I took today.

Oh my, I'm so sorry. Poor Lucky. I feel horrible for both of you. You'll remain in my thoughts and prayers. And if it comes down to making a decision about putting him down, we will support you no matter what. I would definitely get a second opinion though.

Ask around for recommendations. Just ask everyone you know. And even folks you don't know. Look in the yellow pages for vet ads that mention specialists. Call them and ask them questions and their experience with feline cancer.

What kind of tests did the vet do to diagnose this cancer? Did they do an ultrasound? Any blood work? I would think the only way to 100% diagnose a bladder cancer would be by actually seeing it in an ultrasound or some other diagnostic radiology. I could be wrong but that is my experience with humans. If they didn't do any radiology tests, how did they come to this diagnosis? Just ask, ask, ask lots of questions. Mis diagnosis happens more then we like to believe. And I've heard of cats with severe UTI's or kidney infections that just required longer periods on antibiotics. I'm not saying your vet is wrong or didn't do enough but we have to take charge of our pets (as well as our own) medical care.

I'm here on your side and want to help you be strong. I almost gave up on one of my cats a couple times when vets pretty much told me to.

Thanks mzjazz. According to the papers all he did was give him a k9 bladder cancer test and gave him ovo rings and some injections of fluids. I am going to call around and see how much this is going to cost. I cant do it until monday though. Arghh....
