My cat pumpkin has long fur and I try to comb her as much as I can but she does not like it and attacks the comb and my hand, I can get the fur on her back and sides if I am careful but it is hard to get the fur on her underside and she tends to get clumps under her front legs, any suggestions on how I can get her to let me get her underside and what to to about the clumps, they are not big, usualy about dime size.

I started combing my kitten the day I brought him home, getting him ready, at the early age of seven weeks! I would give him Pounce when finished and this is the ONLY treat he ever gets. By doing this, he began to look forward to his brushing and he puts up with just about anything so that he can get his Pounce. Now all I do is head into where the dryer is and he runs ahead of me and jumps up on the dryer and waits to get brushed. As far as his underside, I hold him up vertically, and make long sweeiping motions from just under his chin all the way down to just over his private area. Works for me. And Persi.

You really just have to be firm and let the kitty know who is boss. It's not easy to groom an underside but absolutely necessary! As I'm sure you already realize! Try just working at the underside a tiny bit at a time. Short strokes with the comb from the tips of the fur working your way down to the base. Sounds like right now you have a handle on it and just need to persevere!

Ya it can be hard I have a long haired kitty that thinks its "playtime" during brushing time and she is always attacking the comb althouhg I am always seeming to get more done when she is still a little tired from sleeping lol I actually had gotten some tips from here and they were helpful !! Although she still attacks the comb but then I stop brushing her whenever she goes to attack the comb and she looks at me lol....So I do what I can when she will let me and like others have said when she goes to attack it tell her NO I point my finger and say No and she is starting to listen a little better lol ! I hope this can be some help to you !

I agree with that completely. Mine don't think it's playtime anymore though. They just HATE it!
I guess I don't blame them. I just tell them that's what they have to put up with to be so beautiful!

When I posted above and said you need to be firm and let them know who's boss, I should have said firm but gentle. I try to split up the time I work on their underside. Just a minute here and there.

Pumpkin dos'nt think it is playtime, I think she hates it for the same reason kids hate having their hair brushed, it hurts sometimes, I try to go slow and carefull, but sometimes I cant help but pull.
