I can't get Marcie and my husband to "bond" with each other. I get the feeling that my husband's feelings are kind of hurt because Marcie basically ignores him. She will play with him occasionally, but it is me that she follows around and talks to. Whenever I sit down, she is automatically in my lap. When she is home with my husband, she just ignores him all day. She will greet me at the door, but not him. I told him that it is because I am the person that feeds, medicates, and otherwise takes care of her. I suggested that we get a bag of treats and that he occasionally give her a treat, so that she associates him with yummy happy things....any other suggestions?

BTW, I have always been around animals (mostly dogs) but my husband has really never had a pet that he "bonded" with...how do I teach this?

The bag of treats may work. Its worth a try. I have 5 cats and 2 of them really love my SO, the other 3 could care less. But he approaches them swiftly and doesnt respect their space. And wants to pet them on his terms not theirs and as result they prefer me over him.

At one time we had a cat just like that, she never had anything to do with me and laid on my wife's lap all the time. And yes, I did get my feelings quite hurt over this whole matter. But in my case I am sure that it WAS the fact that my wife did everything for the cat. Things are different now, I do EVERYTHING for Persi, and he is never away from my side. On the other hand, he does not ignore my wife, but he clearly knows who is taking care of him. I would certainly try to treats approach and would suggest that ONLY your husband give the treats and see what happens.

So much for the treat idea. I found the best, most envioronmentally friendly, nutritious little salmon treats that I could find and she spits them out and plays with them...

My cats dont like treats either. But they LOVE boiled chicken with no seasonings, (onions or garlic because those are toxic). Maybe you could boil a chicken and remove the skin and bones and just lightly warm in the microwave when he can give her, her "treat".

I don't want to be a wet blanket, but I honestly (IMO) don't believe you can get a cat to bond with anyone unless they want to.

I feed Bijou, clean his litter and all the other stuff for him and yes he is very bonded to me - at bedtime. During the day when my husband is around he talks to hubby, sits near him when he is outside working on the cars or in the yard, and just really prefers to be with him unless it's bedtime. Then at bedtime he ONLY sleeps cuddled up with me.

I have a suggestion though!
Go to a shelter and let a kitty "PICK" your hubby and at the same time save a kitty, get a playmate for your current kitty and everyone will be happy. I've just learned in the past 2 years that 2 cats are even better than one. Before Mika happened to us I would never have considered having 2 at one time. Double your pleasure!

I did not go to the shelter this time but I can vouch for the "let the cat pick me" reasoning cause I had just read about that approach in one of my books and that is what I did to pick Persi. Persi came from a litter of seven and I had always had female strays before Persi but when I went over to see the litter (and film them to take home and study) Persi stood out as the one that wanted to come to me and play with me. Incidently, I had it firmly set in my mind that I would not get a boy, but that is what I ended up with because of his actions.
