Door to door christians!

I think I've just had it with this guy. I work second shift, so I sleep in till around 12 noon everyday, but this guy's been waking me up every :censor::censor::censor::censor::censor::censor::censor: morning at 9am for the past week stuffing pamphlets down my throat and telling me how I'm gonna go to hell if I don't go to his church . I been trying to be nice to him and all thinking if I provoke him he'll just bother me more, but man! today I had to threaten him that I'd call the police and put a restraining order on him for harassment before he left me alone. What the heck is the deal with these people? They can like smell it from you if you're not christian. I've had problems like this in Michigan too before I moved down to Ohio. I think I'm gonna start hanging hooked chains from my ceilings and festooning my doorways with pig entrails if they keep this up.

I hate it when people try and force something onto you like that. We have a lot of Jehovah witnesses come to the door here in the UK, and the 19 year old junior clerk here at work is one, but although i went to church from being small until i hit my late teens i don't go pushing my beliefs on anyone.

I don't believe in the Jehovahs beliefs just as much as they don't believe in mine so i say lets just agree to disagree.

I feel for ya! I have an advantage on the "Witnesses" here in Japan since I can say throught the door phone "nihongo wakarinai" "i dont understand japanese" ... sure they are nice! but its SALESMANSHIP. I feel for ya. And do they call themselves christians btw? i thought they didnt since a lot of their beliefs differ from "regular" christianity (at least the christianity of the bible i practice) - i only say that, since in the states, when I would point out their changing the bibles words, they stopped "ringing my bell", so to speak.

If it keeps up I say let the police handle it. And I know, it sounds bad, but this is about harassment, NOT religious beliefs. Best to ya on it.
Yeah, we get bombarded with Jahovah's Witness too! Generally at daft o'clock on the weekend!

What I mainly dislike is their persistence! If you ignore the first ring, they will knock, then flap the letter box and then wait for five minutes on the off chance that you'll come to the door after ignoring them for so long!

Eh, I don't answer the door..I use to look at the doorstep from an upstairs window and if it was them, I wouldn't answer

Answer the door naked - worked for a friend of mine
post #7 of 168
I tell them I'm a satanist. They never come back after that.

Never tried the answering the door naked thing. I bet that either works or backfires, LOL!
The naked thing is good! Let me ask you a few questions to see if you can get out of this without having to do the full monty. Do you live in an apartment building? If so call the management office and let them know what is going on. They should be able to stop him from coming onto the property. Do you live in a neighborhood with good neighbors? If so, see if you can have one of them try to head him off at the pass. Lastly, if the guy does keep bothering you call the cops! You can at least try to get him on a harassment charge.

I know!! I hate to door to door people. I mean you said no thanks. Leave it at that. The bible tells you to spread the word not force it onto people who don't want it!

My BF got written up at work last night because of crap like this. He was outside on a smoke break and this lady that also works night shift was out there as well. She started asking him about religion and how he should go to church. He tried to be nice and tell her that he wishes to worship/believe in his own way. She continued to harass him. She got the point of calling him a heathen and that he is going to hell for not going to church.

He got angry and lost his temper and basically went off on her telling her that she is the kind of person that gives organized religion a bad name.

They wrote him up but he refused to sign the right up unless she was written up as well. They did speak with her and some of the other employees and she was written up as well. She was told she can believe in anything she wants but she can not preach it at work.

It just steams my mean. I know he should not have lost his temper but religion is a real sore spot with him. She had no right to try and preach her religion to him at the work place and should have dropped it as a soon as he told her he was not interested. I am just glad she was written up as well.

He has only been at this job a little over a month and he didn't need that kind of thing on his record

A Wiccan friend of mine saw them coming, threw on some satanic-type cloths from Halloween, and grabbed a book on Wiccan magic before she answered the door. She told them she was about to start a ceremony and they could join if they wanted. They left so fast that one of them tripped!

They haven't bugged me where I live now, but where I grew up if someone found out you weren't Christians they flocked to you and heckled you like crows on roadkill.
It can be quite annoying. People come to your door at six in the morning saying "have you found Jesus?" and you just want to answer the door in your underwear and say "no, come on let's go look for him!"
People come round occasionally. But I get hassled on the bus or waiting at bus stops more than anything. I'm happy to have a normal conversation with someone about almost any subject, religion included, but when it starts with someone trying to recruit me to their church and ends with me being told that I'm going to hell, then I really don't want to know.

I'm very tolerant of people's right to hold whatever religious beliefs, but I do wish that everyone else would extend me the same courtesy!

I used to have some Indonesian masks with bulging eyes, pigs tusks, and long horsehair head-dresses hanging up in my hallway, that generally sent people away pretty quickly! My brother once invited in some Jehovas Witnesses for a cup of tea and then talked to them for 2 hours about his religion (Wicca). I don't think they ever went back to his door.

We don't get them too often, thank God, but they burn my butt too. If I want to investigate their faith, I'll come find 'em. Generally I let Rob get the door -- he's more diplomatic than I am -- I wouldn't be kind. He's also threatened to invite them in and then ask them how Adam and Eve managed to populate the earth without committing incest. He's never done it, though.
I haven't had any "visitors" since we've moved into this new house.
But, they used to bother me almost every day where we used to live.
I finally got rid of them by saying..."Sure, come on in and tell me all about your religion, I'm Roman Catholic and when you're done I'll tell you all about mine."
They told me they didn't have time for that, so I told them if they weren't willing to listen to me I wasn't willing to listen to them...they never came back

I like that one as well!

My husband answers the door when solicitors come knocking. He looks pretty intimidating and he gives them a firm 'No thank you', shuts the door and they don't come back. We get more politicians at our door than religious folks though.

I do, however, get a LOT of religious solicitors on campus at school (I'm going for my masters in civil engineering). I find it one of the most entertaining things to do while waiting between classes... I'm an atheist who LOVES history and theology. I've had many a debate with people, and they never suspect 'li'l ole me' to be anything but the sweetest potential convert.

Oh, I am so in tune with Rob - I too want to know how if Adam and Eve were made by God, I really need to know who their sons, Cain and Abel married. Did Adam and Eve have daughters as well and did Cain and Abel marry their sisters? Did this incest just keep continuing? Then, if Adam and Eve were the only people God made (and we white folks all assume they were white), where did Asians, Blacks, etc., come from? Oh, I'm so confused!

I agree Susan, I don't care what any faith anyone believes in I just think they shouldn't want everyone to think there way. My Sis-in-law Is studying with the Witnesses, and she acts like everything they say is fact, She's studied with them off and on a few times, and finally she told me that several of the people were on the verge of Divorce untill they started studing, Well I told her I don't beleive that any of that is going to save your horrible 15 year marriage unless the other half works on it. She alway's has something to say about them, so I finally just shut up. I told her hey if it makes you feel better that's what's important.

That's funny, My DH answered the door one day and all I could hear was them telling him Your right lol, He had 20 minutes worth of chit chat with them, and he does know alot about Religion and stuff, but he also says there part of a Cult lol, I told him you just go right ahead and answer that door but don't include me lol. That to me is like going to a Car Dealer and being bombarded with Sales Peolpe I hate that I just wanna say hey when I find what I want I'll wave you over lol.

My Youngest Daughter says she's an Atheist also lol,

I'm all for being enthusiastic about your faith and, and even wanting to share it. And, I'm generally pretty open about hearing about it. But, don't get pushy or obnoxious it about it, and don't put down what I believe.

The last time these folks came to my door wanting to "save" and convert me, I just told them I respect their beliefs and that as a Catholic (and a nun) I'm pretty committed to mine. That was that!

Actually, I don't really like using that term to label myself. I just do it out of lazyness.

My beliefs (and lack thereof) are a little more complicated that what the term 'atheist' implies. Most people think that 'atheist' means a person believes that god is impossible (and that atheists are generally angry and immoral people). Thats not really true. Of course its possible, I accept that. But I don't believe that anyone knows for sure and I don't believe that anyone will ever know for sure in my lifetime. That part is pretty agnostic. BUT, I firmly believe that none of our current concepts of god or the spiritual realm are true. That part is pretty atheist. I do, however, believe that miracles do happen (we just can't explain why with our limited knowledge) and that hope, love, truth and compassion are the most worthy goals that humanity can strive towards...

I'm sure one of the above, or all three , would do wonders with these guys!

I come from a long line of ministers (Southern Baptist and Methodist). My maternal grandfather was a minister so Mom has heard many sermons and read the Bible a lot.

Once she happened to be home when the Jehovahs stopped by. There were several but they sent the rookie up to talk to Mom. Mom listened, then started shooting holes in what the lady spouted and almost had her join the Southern Baptists but her co-horts grabbed her and took off.

As for the "have you found Jesus" remark - I heard one tale of someone who acted panicky and screamed back at the person, "OH MY GOD!!!!! YOU LOST HIM????"

We never have anyone come to our apartment -- it's the side door of what looks to be an ordinary house, so no-one would ever guess it's the entrance to the upstairs apartment -- but when we lived with our friends we had Jehovah's Witnesses come by quite frequently. Part of it was because one of the women who lived there before us would spend time talking with them and encouraged their visits because she found it amusing (in a patronizing kind of way); part of it was because of the neighbourhood we lived in, with lots of families and multiple churches and schools within walking distance. They always prefaced their discussions by asking me if I was worried about the state of the world today, and I always confounded them by saying no. Then they'd finish up with their inevitable "you're going to hell!" comment, to which I'd always reply "Oh, thank goodness -- that's where all my friends and family will be!"

I dislike door-to-door religious solicitors for the same reason I dislike telemarketers and other door-to-door solicitors: if I want the "product" someone is selling, I'll seek it out myself, on my own terms and in my own time. Having someone show up on my doorstep (or call me) when I'm in the middle of dinner predisposes me towards being disagreeable and unwilling to listen. I always end up refusing to listen, just out of stubborness and sheer contrariness.

well, Adam & Eve did have other children, they're just not named. so yes - the boys married their sisters. i'm of the opinion that so-called 'racial' differences are due to adaptation - people with darker skins are more adapted to hotter climates, are therefore longer-living & thusly more prolific, spreading their genes around more.
but, back on topic - i had some Mormons come around to my door one Saturday morning ok, Saturday - sleep in day, right? especially if one is a churchgoer, since that means you have to get up on Sunday. anyway, i told them i wasn't interested in talking to non-Christians, which is what i consider Mormons to be. of course, that's not what they consider themselves to be, so they wanted to argue, but i just shut the door after my statement.
i also hang up on telemarketers.

At my old school we had lots of Jehovahs Witnesses and also some other extremely evangelical church who would stand on the main sidewalk and hand out fliers about how we were all going to hell. I collected them for a while, they were too funny. Like the one about how God hates marijuana... that was covered in Grateful Dead bears... and I have yet to understand how a plant can be evil. I mean, I don't smoke it, but how is a plant evil? If you believe in God, didn't He create pot? Anyway, they started making their toddlers and wives stand outside in the freezing cold handing out these fliers, and I really wanted to punch the guys in the face. These women look so desperately unhappy, honestly, the expressions on their faces look like they're slaves. And they'd make the 3 and 4 year-olds hand out the fliers because nobody wanted to say no to them. Barf. Same people would stand by the bars and call us all sodomites. Whatever. Way to convince someone to follow your beliefs!

Here all I've encountered are mentally disturbed displaced people who are usually mumbling pretty incoherent things about God. One of them has a bullhorn though.

Wow, reading all the posts on this thread one would think serial killers were coming to your door. Very sad IMO

I have never in my life had any trouble with Jehovah Witness or LDS people coming to my door. I just tell them I believe in Jesus and that I belong to my own church and am happy with it. They graciously accept that and that is the end of it.
I wonder why you all have so many problems.
