I've never heard that about Ragdolls & I don't think it true. When my son comes visit he has sneeze attacks whenever my Ragdolls are around him.

I have read that the Siberian lacks or has less of a certain protien that causes allergies in some people. They suggest that you visit a Siberian cattery beforehand to see if you're allergic to them.

More info here, here.... & here.

Siamese shed like crazy! At least everyone Ive met has. And all my kitties except Nazumi have siamese in them (though they may not look it). They are all shed machines. My grandma used to breed siameses. And her house always had lots of fur no matter how much she cleaned. Annie Rose (Snowshoe with siamese in her) sheds the most of any cat Ive ever met. But she does have some bad allergies.

Maybe that's why she doesn't bother my allergies. I just figured since she was the only long-haired cat I had and the only one that didn't bother me that it must be the long hair keeping the dander down. We do believe Pebbles father was a Rag and I can stick my nose right in her fur and it doesn't bother me so maybe that's true. The others - all they have to do is headbump me a few times and I'm sneezin up a storm.

(not saying you're a dummy- it's just the title of the book
)/ It is a wonderful reference and it answers many of the questions people interested in cats may have! I highly recommend it- you can rent it at your local book store
Also "The Cat Bible" is an excellent guide as well. Good luck! Let us know if you have any questions

Also- check out www.aspca.org (or .com i can't remember which at the moment
) They have excellent tips on cat proofing your home, as well as numerous other good tips and ideas!

Well, I have "Kittens for Dummies" and Persi will be eight months old tomorrow. When do I have to trade my present book in for "Cats for Dummies"?

Hi guys!

Wow...information overload...thanks for ALL the information...all of it is extremely useful.

I really want a Burmese cat...but I have to look in to it, and take some of your advice etc.

I took an internet quiz and it said Siamese were best for me. If you're interested in the quiz, here it is:

http://www.selectsmart.com/CAT/

I don't really want a Siamese, I do, though, want a Burmese.

Thanks!
Barry

If you've already got your heart set on a Burmese, look for a cattery called Bodyguard - they have some of the most gorgeous E Burms I've ever seen! I'm not too sure about Canadian breeders and Bodyguard is from the US...

Great choice!

Try visiting a cat show, you can see in person the breeds you are interested in see how you are around them and talk with breeders about them.

First of all welcome to the site and secondly here's a link to a the CFA site. It has a lot of info and I went of head and clicked to the breed links but up at the top it has other area's you can go to and so does the bottom. Hope you enjoy it and I hope you find the kitty you want but word of warning they choose you not the other way around.

The problem with CFA is that they dnn't recognize all breeds. TICA might be a better sight to check out.

There is a new cat out that scientists are creating that is supposed to be non allergic. The problem is this cat costs about $5000 US.

Although Bengals are not hypo allergic, I don't think they cause as much problems as most other cats. I have 2 Bengal's and 2 Siamese, and the Siamese shed, but I don't really notice much shedding from the Bengals, and their fur is more of a pelt and not regular cat fur.

Hey guys!

Again, this place is a great forum to post my questions - thanks for all the info.

There's a lot of nice cats out there, and I do like the Bengals, but I keep leaning towards Burmese!

Thanks again!

I know you have your heart set on a breed already but on behalf of all existing forever homeless kitties I'd like to ask you to at least go to a local shelter and just look at the cats there. You don't have to take one home but you never know what you'll find. As much as I love some breeds (like bengals) I can't justify spending hundreds of dollars when there are so many cats already out there looking for someone to love.
