Hi,

I have a 15 year old calico, and a 2.5 year old formerly feral neutered male tuxedo cat. I catsit for my neighbor, who breeds Birmans and American wirehairs. Last summer, she had a litter of wirehairs and one didn't "kink." She's offered her to me, and I am bringing her home tomorrow for an extended "test drive" and probably permanent placement. She's a kitten from my neighbor's two favorite cats and I'm really excited, yet nervous.

I haven't had a kitten in the house in 12 years! This new baby is already 5 months old, so has most of the "baby stuff" behind her already, but it will still seem strange. I'm hoping she and my Felix will be fast friends. I know my calico will ignore her forever as she likes no one.

Anyway, I'm excited and nervous. Just had to share!

I can fully understand this as I have had seven cats before now but all were strays and this, my eighth planned cat was a kitten so it has been an entirely different learning experience for both of us. Lost of pluses and lots of minused but the pluses far ourweighing the minuses. Just an hour ago we were watching a movie in the TV room and heard a loud crash from the kitchen. Neither of us moved from watching the movie to see what had gotten broked, we are just now getting to complacent about kitten ownership and the special case involved. Yes they are frustrating, but we are sure glad we finally got a kitten to experience a different way of living with a cat!

Day 2 and it's going well. We are absolutely smitten with Sheba. She has the cutest little round face and is so inquisitive. I think the transition is going as well as can be expected. The dogs would LOVE to chase her (but know better) and the cats are severely teed off! Growling and hissing but no blows. This morning Felix did attempt some play for a few seconds and Hannah (my senior cat) "talked" to Sheba a bit.

Sheba's not eating well and I'm about to go to the store to buy some kitten food. She also didn't like sleeping alone in the study much (she's used to sleeping in bed with 2 humans, 8 other cats and 3 dogs) but made it through the night with the help of my daughter's stuffed turtle toy. We just don't sleep with pets in the bedrooms here due to allergies and I'm a terrible sleeper anyway. As soon as she transitions, she can join the rest of the pack in the living room.

Yes, life with a kitten is certainly different, especially a "planned kitten." LOL
