Condolences on losing Loki to such a freak accident. Accidents can be esp. difficult to deal with (as opposed to terminal illness) - I think that the guilt factor is greater. But I have never heard of a bird choking on a cuttlebone; I guess it's true that sometimes things just happen, but when they do, the shock has a terrible impact. I hope that you find comfort in the headbutts and purrs of your other babies - they know that Meowwmy's very, very upset.

Many sad meows and tearful cheeps from KittenKiya's Clan. The hurt one feels at the loss of a loved one is immense, but do not blame yourself. Accidents happen to us all. You did nothing wrong.

Animals are so honest about their love, and that's something people are just too complicated to do.

When your eyes and head hurt from crying, it is a good idea to lie back with the lights off, and put a cold washcloth over your eyes... it is very soothing and makes the headache go away a little. Also peppermint tea, or any hot herb tea, is good for clogged sinuses when you have been crying.

You and your family, stick together and love each other... Your memories of Loki will be with you always.
This is a nice post, and so true! (other than calling loki a cat
) Every one here feels the same as you do about our pets, and will be supportive and never look at you weird for bawling you eyes out, we have all lost some thing we love and are here for you. Also try relaxing and diming the lights with a cool cloth on your head like callista advised, it may help, even if it is only a little. Again, I am so sorry for your loss. Take care, I know some of the friends you have made here that you know will try their best to help you all they can!

I am so sorry to hear about Loki. We all love our animals so much and it is such a shock when something completely unforeseen happens, especially when we start to feel guilty and wonder if we could have prevented it. But this was an accident, just that, and you could not have done anything - you were giving him all the care you could. I know that doesn't help right now, and you and your family must be devastated, you have already been through so much. I hope you find the strength to get through this bad time.

My apologies. Bird or cat, it is still a loss. I hope I haven't offended... I'm a very oblivious ADHD-y person sometimes. Okay, most of the time.

I got to know my sister's budgies... they are definitely animals with unique personalities, just like cats. I don't know birds like I do cats; but what I saw of them, I liked well enough.

I have now changed the original post to include the correct species.

I'm so sorry that you lost your little Loki, but I am relieved that you are being to realise that it wasn't your fault - you have always given your animals the absolute best care you can.

And it is a gift that the two of you were together when he passed - he wasn't alone.

Rest in happy play Loki - fill the skies of Rainbow Bridge with your voice.
