I would get pain infrequently at the beginning but during the summer it was getting worse. I was in New Jersey for a business trip and was woken up by pain which went away after about an hour. Two days later when I got home, I woke up with the really severe pain and that was when I was nauseous and couldn't keep anything down. After about 5 hours of this, I had my husband take me to hospital.

did you have surgery when you went to the hospital? how did they know it was your gallbladder?
See i am nausious but not throwing up. I never ever throw up unless its alcohol related. (not proud of that)
the pain the first time round was under my rib, the past week its been my stomach.

They did an ultrasound and found a lot of gall bladder stones. I was in surgery later that day.

Fighting for ferals in NW NJ!
My heart goes out to all of you with IBS and other gastro problems! Gary has such bad problems they've got him on paregoric (which is an opium based product - it was used frequently in my parent's time and apparently when I was a kid, but is considered a really old fashioned product now. It functions to slow the whole GI system down). Gary's been diagnosed with everything from IBS to UBS (uncontrollable bowel syndrome) to "spastic" bowl. He has INTENSE pain, lots of blood - out either end - and throws up a lot. He often spends the evening writhing on the bathroom floor.

The Doc explained that the GI system is "one smooth muscle," so dependent upon where the spasm is, he either has diarrhea or throws up. The problem is that he's also got ulcers and internal hemerrhoids - thus the blood.

Gary's big problem is that he also has cluster headaches (also known as suicide headaches - according to cleveland clinics, they're 100x more painful than migraines). There is no effective treatment for clusters. What works best for Gary to help abort the attacks is caffeine - which is horrible for his GI problems. It's just horrible all the way around.

Do make sure you get tested. But it is possible to experience seriously intense pain with throwing up and it is simply a spasm that is related to what you think of as IBS.

Found a great site for IBS, BTW: http://www.helpforibs.com/footer/treatments.asp

I sure hope you figure out what the problem is - and that it is something you can do something about!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There is an awful tummy bug going around here- although I can't remember the exact name of it, it is the one that goes around cruise ships (norvovirus?). I wonder if it could be that? When I got sick like that it ended up not just being my IBS, but actually my endometriosis, which ended up in my colon, believe it or not. I hope you continue to feel better.

Sorry to hear you were in hospital

Have they ruled out diverticulitis? That's incredibly painful? What about Gastroparesis? That too is incredibly painful.

It's possible that it could have been a bad case of gas that you experienced. Some pockets of gas, depending on where they are, can incapacitate someone with pain. I remember my Mom waking up screaming one night and she couldn't tell me what was wrong except 'stomach'. I called an ambulance and she was taken to the hospital and checked out. Apparently it was a pocket of gas.

Have you been tested for Lupus or Celiac Disease?

Ok I figured I would just post things they have ruled out. It will be much easier. LOL
Gastroparesis
Gas
Ulcers of the stomach. My GI doctor says maybe in the intestines though.
Celiac Disease
Heavy Chain Disease (or something like that)
Thats all I can remember. I know there were some more. Oh forgot I was tested for Lupus about a year ago. So dont have that either. My GI doctor thinks its either Ulcers in the intestines, gall bladder or a infection in my intestines. They know I have an infection but they arent sure if its just secondary or what is causing the problems.

Yeah I have had ulcers before and this doesnt feel like them. Im not throwing up blood like I did those times. Sorry Gary has so much trouble. IBS is a pain in the the hiney.
Thats kinda funny. Ok back to being serious. Ive also been diagnosed with UBS. I told John the other day that "the last year Ive totally lost control over my b u t t." He thought that was to funny. But seriously I have no control over what comes out sometimes. And it started before the pregnancy.

Thanks! I read that and it sounds like it might be a possibility. My doctor tried to get an ultrasound of my gall bladder but wasnt able to because of the position that Lava Girl was in. So we will see. I get to go back thursday to see if any of the test showed what was wrong and for an endoscopy. YAY!

It sounds like she didn't realise you "named" her Lava Girl

I'm sorry to hear you were in so much pain and had to go back to hospital!! You and John have spent enough time there this year! I hope they can find out what's wrong, and it gets better.

I feel horrible for John as well!!! It must have been horrible for him to hear you screaming in pain and not be able to do anything

Oh Ok! I didnt get what she was saying. Lava Girl has a different name also but I'm waiting to see for sure if she looks like what her name is or if I think some other name will fit her better. Im sure I will be calling her Lava Girl though.

I'm hoping for some news on thursday that its something easy to fix and not oh we dont have any idea. I also hope I dont have to get an endoscopy done. Dont like those.
I feet bad for John too. He hurt himself trying to get out of bed. He wont admit it but I heard him ask his PT if he could get an increase in his pain meds today when she came to work with him.
I asked him a couple of times if he wanted help out of bed and he just said nope Im cool. Which isnt like him. He hasnt given up the chance to get out of bed since hes been allowed to. So I know he hurt himself. He has an apointment on Friday so we will see if he did any major damage or not. I think it would be painful to move period since he has all those plates and pins holding things together. I dont think that would be to comfortable to move around wit those in you.
