Hello All. It has been a while since I posted here. My husband and I adopted Brutis in April. He has had a slew of problems both health and behavioral since we brought him home. When we first brought him home he was laid back, easy going, and lovable. Now he is neurotic and scared of everything, especially my husband. One of his behavior problems is he pees outside the litter box. He doesn't have a UTI. I had a urine culture and even a very expensive blood panel done. Nothing wrong. My husband and I have to be very careful about what we do or changes in the house because you never know what will set him off. We are treating him with Herbal Calm and we have a Feliway plug in, neither seem to be working. We are very frustrated because he is destroying our carpet and he avoids contact with us. And I hate to say it, but he is about the dumbest cat I have every met.
Here are some examples of what he has done/is doing...
My husband and I went out last night. The door to the room Brutis was in closed but didn't latch. All he had to do was push it to open it. Instead, he clawed the carpet around the door so bad we are now most definitely going to have to replace the carpet. He scratched so hard there were pieces of his nails and blood on the carpet. But of course when I opened the door and discovered this, he wouldn't come out of the room because my husband was out there. He hates being locked up anywhere. It becomes very difficult for me to take my cocketiel out because I have to lock him and the other cat and dog in a room so they won't attack the cocketiel. Brutis will clay and panic if I lock him up.
I work in sales. Some weeks I am gone overnight 2 or 3 days. Brutis will not eat while I'm gone (not healthy especially since he once had a UTI) and when I come home he will show me how mad he was that I left by peeing on any blanket, clothing or paper left on the floor. My husband has a joke about picking up his messes before I come home, not because I'll be mad, but because Brutis will pee on it.
He will not come out from under the bed if my husband is home. My husband is a type B personality. He is calm. Most cats love him. He's not loud or violent. Brutis has avoided him from day one.
When we first brought him home, he'd do just about anything for food. Now, he won't come out to eat unless he is certain that no one is around or watching him.
I am beginning to think that maybe I should find him a little old lady to live with. He is not adjusting well to our home. He seems to pretty much hate it here.
