We recently adopted our fourth cat, and unlike our other cats, this one LOVES people food. I canâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]t sit down to eat anything without him investigating it first. So I needed to find out from people who know more about cats than I do…

What kinds of foods are bad for him? I donâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]t mind feeding him (I kind of like it, actually) but I donâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]t want to accidentally feed him something that would hurt him. He never eats much of anything, he just wants to take a few sample bites.

Are there certain things I should not feed him?

Thanks!

I personally won't feed Trout any people food. I don't think its good to mess with their digestive processes. But thats just my opinion.

I know onion is toxic to them though..but thats the only thing I'm sure of.

Try the ASPCA site... I am sure someone will have a link ... but that is where I found a good list

Generally, people food is bad for cats, it can take them a long time to get used to a new cat food without messing up their digestive systems more and you will find it hard to find a list of 'good foods' as most vets etc would put everything on a 'no no list'.

There is a list of foods toxic to cats here along with some links to other pages.

Just remember to check the ingredients of foods carefully, you would be surprised at the addicitves etc in foods that can make kitty sick.

If you are going to feed some human food, I suggest pieces of chicken etc with no sauce and be careful that there are no small bones they can choke on

My dante is the exact same, what i've done is cook up some plain chicken (in the oven) and cut it into small pieces, then froze it. Then every night when i sit down to eat supper i take out a couple of pieces and de-thaw it, then when he comes to try to eat some of my supper, i take the little chicken pieces and give it to him. It makes him think he's getting some of my supper without actually giving him anything dangerous.

You of course would not feed this to your cat but this is a good opportunity to remind people at this time of year that any antifreeze you may have spilled in your garage is indeed deadly for your cat.
