My boyfriend and I just moved into a 2 bed room one bath duplex. We use to live in a stuido apartment. Joplin is acting really scared, he meows and hides under the dresser. I don't think he use to all this space. Hendrix is a good girl, this is her third move but this one is really big. She is two and has already found a favorite window. She is still slightly scared exploring at her own pace. Jopin is about 7 mo old. Very much a mamas boy and just wants to be held

BF and I don't like seeing him upset as he is our son!

My question is how to make him feel more welcome in our new home? He even hid in the litter box! We have one o those cave like ones.

Any advice thanks in advance.

I would try to just leave him in the one room for now with things that are familiar to him. Maybe bedding or things from your old house. Let him explore more in a few days after he seems comfortable in that room. It probably wouldn't hurt to look into some feliway (something like that) stuff that others have mentioned on here too.

I think that giving him time will do the trick also. He just doesn't know what to do with himself in all that space.

Just wait. That will change.

Trout is very high stress too, and she flipped out when I moved. I just gave her time, and she hid for a couple of days. They slowly make their way out once they feel comfortable.

Make sure you have something with your scents in all the rooms so they seem a little more familiar to him.

I know this sounds crazy but do you have ceiling fans? And if so, did you have them in the old apt?

My RB Oreo did that when I moved. We didn't have them in the old apt but had them in the new house and she FREAKED out because of the fans. It took her a good 2 weeks to get used to them.

I know it's a long shot but hey, ya never know

We actually do have a ceiling fan but Joplin is still a kitten and I dont think he notices it yet.

ENGLAND... LAND OF HOPE AND GLORY!
I'll move this to Care and Grooming

I plugged a Feliway diffuser into the girls new bedroom as soon as i walked into my new house and i swear that helped. Rosie is very timid, and this is why i got the diffuser. She stayed in her cat carrier for 8 hours before coming out to explore but was fine the following day
