What do you guys do for SHORT hair cats and grooming. I have tried furminator, regular old brushes..nothing seems to get anything out of my cats at all and yet I know they shed....
the lady at the vet says she uses this comb and it works well....got it...didn't work on mine...
I'd like to be able to groom and brush them to reduce how much cat hair i have laying around and now with Isis having asthma, it probably would be a good thing.

My crossbreed shorthair just does really well with hand-grooming - I only brush him occasionally with my husband's hairbrush because he enjoys it - but for grooming I just find ruffling his fur every which way (which he loves) gets rid of the loose hairs. He's very low maintenance in that respect!

I use a Zoom Groom on Gizmo. She starts purring up a storm when I do! This is great at dislodging the 'winter underwear'--the soft, thick hair under her guard hairs.

The smaller, metal toothed thing (forgot its name but it's an 'as seen on TV' special) actually works best for light grooming of the guard hairs. It's harder to get Gizzy to cooperate, but I do manage to brush her once or twice a week.

I can recommend the Zoom Groom without reservation. It really works.

Ditto! Zoom Groom. I use a fine-toothed comb on Jamie every day, but have found that my neighbors' and family's cats and dogs really love the Zoom Groom. I wonder how it would work for Persians, but have found that it's perfect for short and medium-haired cats, and any dogs with short, wiry, or longish coats.

The other item (which is basically just a metal fine toothed comb) should be used after the Zoom Groom. It's kind of like using a touchup brush after a paint roller. Both products work well on my shorthaired cat. She never liked the slickers, brushes, and gloves I tried earlier but she loves the Zoom Groom. There is also a similar model made that has a built in shampoo bottle.

These are some of the things I used on my shorthair cats.

1. Small flea comb - one of the best ways to get a lot of fur from a shorthair - you'd be surprised

2. The small rubber brushes that have short rubber teeth. Great for shorthair cats with tight coats - many people that show orientals/siamese use them and they work well.

3. The grooming glove that has little rubber "teeth" - kinda like the rubber brush.

I use a teasing comb on my short haired cats and it works wonderfully, better than the metal comb I have.

In my experience, the zoom groom doesn't work well for Persians. It just doesn't get enough hair out. And Persians have a lot of it!! But I understand it works well with short haired cats. MIght still have to use a comb though.

The glove with the little nubs did nothing for Gizmo except make her leave. She really loves the Zoom Groom, though.

I think that it works best for short haired cats.

I'm going to put in another good word about the Zoom Groom. My Luna sheds SO bad. Especially when you pet her- afterwards, you're covered in white hair. The zoom groom gets so much of the loose hair that nothing else got, and she absolutely loves being brushed with it. They really don't look like they'd work very well, but I was pleasantly surprised. The only downside is that at the time of brushing the hair does tend to fly. You've just got to make sure you clean up afterwards. If I brush her with this like once a week, we don't have as much of a hair problem.

The only thing that really does anything with my shorthaired cat is a metal flea comb. Unfortunately she dislikes that comb a lot!

For me the fine-toothed flea comb is one of the best for shorthair grooming. Brushes really don't do much for any coat IMO.

Another vote for a fine toothed comb. It works great on my short hairs and most of them enjoy being groomed. Of course, the treats they get after being groomed help.
