I had never heard of this before, guess I am still kind of a newbie to most. But I do know how to use the SEARCH button on the tool bar and I just entered acne and found all the letters that you had received and everybody else. I had ignored that button for so long and I have found it to be SO USEFUL in locating information under ANY forum on the site. Many people worry about being on the right forum, just use the SEARCH button! Oh, and thanks, I am heading out now to toss my plastic mat.

My cats both have chin acne, and both eat from wide, shallow steel bowls. What helped was making sure the bowls were kept very clean. I used to throw food in their bowls for a couple of nights before washing them, and as soon as I started washing them every night, their acne improved a great deal. It's still there a little on both of them, but it's a lot better than it was.

I'm the same as you - they are never fed twice in the same dish unless it is washed in between. I wouldn't want to eat all my meals in one or two days on the same plate that's not washed between meals, so why would I do that to my kitties.

Ditto. My babies eat only from a clean dish for every meal.

A possible time saver..........

I have plenty of cats, so maybe this is just for those in my boat. I buy the cheap non-coated paper plates to serve up the cats food. When they are done eating...I toss the plate in the trash.

This prevents any chins touching less than clean bowls, etc.

Now, of course this doesn't work for water bowls.
I use clean glass or stainless daily.

I'm glad to hear you got to the bottom of it. I use clean bowls for every meal, too - the top rack of the dishwasher is full of cat bowls!

The cat bowls fit better in the top here. I run the dishwasher every other day, and generally end up with around 24 cat bowls (dry, wet, cat milk, water, times 3). Heck, I have a huge collection of glass, china, and stainless steel cat bowls.I've never actually counted, but I'd estimate that I have 35 to 60 cat bowls, all for a 1-cat, 2-person household (plus two "shared" cats, backyard hedgehogs, and any hungry stray/neighborhood cat that convinces me that he/she is "starving"). We currently have two double, and one single, kitchen cabinets full of bowls and cat food.

You sound exactly like me. I have some separate bowls that a neighborhood cat (with permission of his owner) gets his wet food everyday. With 5 cats, 1 dog and 1 outside neighborhood cat, I have to wash every single day! Oh what fun it is!

This is a very old thread, but still contains info that may be of interest to members.

After my cats have eaten, I put all leftovers (often there are none!) into a clean bowl and put it in the fridge till next time, when I give them that bowl alongside the newly filled ones. I never offer food more than twice - if it is not eaten the second time it goes in the bin.
