im thinking about getting a selkirk rex, i already have a balenese that is about 2 1/2 years old. im wondering if getting another would change his personality? and i was wondering about the temperment of the selkirk? if there is a difference between the male and female, and any health problems that may be associated. thanks to all that reply!

Balinese are basically longhair siamese and would have the siamese personality. The Selkirks are more laid back and a larger cat - 8-10 lbs (maybe a bit bigger) compared to the 5-7 lbs balinese.

Males would be larger then females but as long as they are neutered/spayed it would be ok.

I'd get opposite sex of the bali unless he's a male - then you could get another male. Sometimes females tend to be more territorial and take longer to accept another female coming in the house. I'm assuming your bali is neutered/spayed?

Now if you want a similar personality of the bali, then go with the devon or cornish rex - they are closer in size, activity, and people-oriented like the balis

Mica is a Balinese and she took GREAT objection to my foster cat Toby (DSH) a very heavy set cat. She would go right up to his face and hiss at him. She learned to tolerate him eventually but didn't miss him when he left!

Rocket is a moggie and he really finds Mica very tiring, he is such a laid back cat and she is a diva (in her lovely Bali way), so do try and match their personalities.
