I was going to ask about the pros and cons of using flea collars but read in another thread that they can cause more harm than good so that pretty much settled the "debate" for me about whether or not to use collars. I'm glad that I found and read that thread first.

I'm currently treating my cats for fleas that the kittens brought in with them using Frontline Top Spot (I'm due to start them on the second treatment late next week). Is there any difference in effectiveness between Frontline Plus and Top Spot, Advantage and Revolution?

Also, I just wanted to say thanks for the idea I picked up in the other thread I read about using a piece of a flea collar in the vacuum bag and to put a collar under the cushions of the furniture. I think that's a great idea and will do that as soon as I can pick some of them up. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Bryan

I can't really tell you what the differences are, but I can tell you that we've always used Frontline Plus, it works great and we've never had any problems.
Check with your Vet to see what he/she recommends.
Our Vet is the one who recommended Frontline Plus to us.

First off the only problem with a flea collar under the cushion is the awful smell! I don't knwo about anyone else but I cannot stand that sickly smell of a flea collar hehe. I couldn't imagine it being right under me when I am sitting. If you can find one that doesn't smell awful! That is GREAT though that you decided not to use them on your pets!

As far as the differences go, There is a little chart here to tell you

They don't include Revolution though and that is:
- Heartworm preventive
- Intestinal wormer for cats
- Flea control and prevention product
- Treatment for ear mites
- Tick control product for dogs
- Treatment for sarcoptic mange in dogs

Well I use Frontline, have done for years now and I find it to be very effective.......
......not tried any of the others, so cant comment. None of my cats have ever had collars, they are outdoor/indoor kits, so I was always worried about them getting caught on trees etc.
........Also Dino would have an allergic reaction to any type of collar - this was in the days when "drops" were thought dangerous.

I also give my house a spray with Acclaim flea spray, maybe once a year just to make sure the little blighters arent in the house

Jen, thanks for the info regarding the different products. Do flea collars really smell that bad?

I don't think that I could safely spray the apartment with all of the aquariums.

Thanks,
Bryan

I use Revolution since it causes no side effects with my notoriously side effect prone cat. It also protects against heartworm and we have a lot of it here. It was a wet summer and thankfully I did not see any mosquitoes in my house--but they were there, outdoors.
I feel sorry for the outdoor cats in this city.
