Im feeding Purdie a mixture of fresh chicken (well cooked), cat biscuits and wet kitten food, she also loves the odd bowl of tuna.

Is this a good diet? Is chicken okay for a kitten? She really likes it, and its lovely to see a nice clean bowl

Only the best for my kitty, but am I doing the right thing by her?

She has chicken one meal every day, the rest is normal shop kitty food, and she has biscuits down all the time.

Chicken is very good for your cat. I feed my cats chicken mixed with rice and they love it. All my cats grew up to be a healthy weight. I gave them Whiskas Dry Food mixed with Tender Vittles (Purina) and Whiskas Kitten Food. They would get chicken every couple of days. No tuna! Tuna causes a miserable and painful ailment in cats called steatitis. Click on the link below to learn more about this.

I feed Ivo 2/3 cup Hill's Science Diet Hairball Control Light a day. I change it every morning. I also give her 1/3 small can Fancy Feast two times a day. She doesn't eat much of it, but really seems to like to have a few nibbles. She's not interested in human food, so she doesn't get leftovers.

I give 1/2 cup Innova dry to each of my four and every other day they split a small can of wet food - various brands (Innova, Wellness, Active Life, Pinnacle, Solid Gold, Azmira, Petguard, ect).
I agree skip the tuna - not good. As long as the cat is not eating more chicken than cat food I'd say thats fine too. Too much chicken and not enough cat food would be an unbalanced diet.

Good question. I'm interested in the answers also. Currently my Senior cat is eating Nutro Max Cat Senior dry (left out free feed all day) and a 1/2 can of Nutro Senior wet.

The kittens are eating Nutro's Kitten dry food and they share 1 can of Nutro Kitten wet in the AM and 1 in the evening.

Recently I posted a note asking about HealthWise Kitten (made by Innova) and how it compares with other brands that are usually recommended (ie: Science Diet, Iams, Nature's Recipe, Nutro, etc.). (BTW, Nern, thanks for your reply
)

I'm afraid I'm at a loss as to what the really good stuff is these days. My vet says the Nutro is just fine for many cats, but some do have allergies to some of the ingredients.

I've also done a little bit of reading about the raw food diets but I just don't think I can do that.

We like the Nutro Max Cat brands. Years ago, when we fostered an older cat, Fluffy, we fed the cats Nutro Max Cat Senior. After Fluffy went back living with her mom, we switched to Nutro Max Cat Adult. When our kittens were still young, we would feed them Nutro Max Kitten.

Actually you beat me to it! I was going to ask this same question since I will be picking up my kitten in the next few weeks.

I haven't had a chance to ask my breeder this question. When I get a chance to call her I'll post my reply.

Nutro is a good brand...as far as some cat having allergies to some of the ingredients in it, this is true for all brands not just Nutro. Cats can become allergic to most ingredients most often proteins because of the molecular structure of it. Anything containing protein including all meat sources, wheat, corn and any other ingredient containing protein can turn into allergens.

Raw meat diets - Im far from being educated enough as of yet to successfully prepare my cats meals. If I ever turn to raw diets I most likely will purchase the already prepared frozen fresh types just to play it safe. Im not real fond of handling raw meat even for myself

My maine coon eats a raw diet, I prepare it myself. Since I've been feeding my dogs a raw diet for a bit more than two years now, it wasn't difficul to learn how to feed the cat a raw diet as well. She gets kibble occasionally, like when someone comes in to take care of the cats when I'm away, it's easier that way and you can leave kibble out, unlike raw foods. She has grown beautifully (put her on the raw diet when I got her at 4,5 months), her breeder was just here for a brief visit a few weeks ago, and she agreed that the maine coon is just adorable, has grown wonderfully, and appears in perfect health.

My older cat eats kibble, since she refuses to switch to a raw diet, she won't even accept most canned foods. I always buy pet store brands, even though I don't think any of them are 'optimum' nutrition for her, but since that's all she'll eat, it'll have to do. I often get Nutro, since it doesn't have as many preservatives as many other brands (mainly vit E is used).

Nern:

That is exactly what happend to my Loki a 21/2 yr. old marble bengal. I was feeding him Nutro dry and wet - as per breeder recommendation and most of the diarrhea problems he was having turned out to be a food allergy to some of the ingredience in Nutro. Switch him to Sience Diet for Sensitive stomachs. Due to the food allergies he now has collitis, which I may add is under control with extra fiber in his diet.

This is just a little warning that one of the triggers for collitis is a food allergie -ughh!!

I used to have a cat that would vomit a lot and it took me ages to find a good hard cat food for him. (He has since passed away from Cancer). But I have continued with this brand of Cat food with my two cats I have now. I feed my girls Arcana hard cat food in chicken flavor. I also give each half a can (small cans) of soft food from Health Diet or Friskies.
