Anyway, I always get red spots exactly where the hairs were. I basically look polka-dotted for a couple days.

I think Hydrocortisone helps alot, maybe try that!
Me too on all counts. Occasionally I get my eyebrows waxed if I don't want to do them myself. The red dots are annoying, lol.

I really need to get my eyebrows waxed-they are going to start growing together really soon. I'm not good on keeping them tweezed between waxing so when they are done yikes its like ripping half my hair out. I will check out those other products.
Haven't had upper lip done for a while sometimes I bleach it instead.

Is it hard to wax your own eyebrows or is it a two person job???

I recommend it. Be brave.
Lol. It hurts but it's over quickly and you will adore the results!

There's also a way less painful way of hair removal called threading. It's great for the eyebrows or anywhere else on the face. The only downside is that it's hard to find salons that have someone who does it.

Threading seems to be becoming more popular in Montreal, while I've never had it done I've heard great things about it.

I am currently working part-time as a Receptionist in a hair salon. I got my eyebrows threaded for free at work one night. It had been over 5 years since I had done anything with my eyebrows. I had my eyebrows waxed before I got married in 2001. I just never thought about it.

What exactly is it, or how they do it? I've never heard of it...

I wax my own eyebrows when they need it. I can't wax anything else though. my legs bruise badly, I don't have the courage to wax the bikini area. My eyebrows stay red for a day or so and breaks out for a doy or so. Then it looks great!

I don't know exactly what it is, but threading is much more accurate than eyebrow waxing. My mom thinks that it hurts a little more than waxing does, but the more you do either of them the less it will hurt. I definitely prefer threading to waxing because the results were better, and threading did not make my skin turn red like waxing did.

A word of advice- if you have never gotten a bikini wax, do not go straight for the Brazilian (like I did for my honeymoon). I had also gone tanning the night before, which you are not supposed to do before a wax (no one told me), and it hurt A LOT!

Threading is a technique where they use this long string to remove the hair. It's kinda hard to tell how the string actually grabs on to the hair, but somehow it does. I think it originated in India. The eyebrows come out very precise, and for me, the redness only last like an hour tops.

If anyone knows of a place that does threading in St. Louis or D.C., let me know because I've been trying to find it in those locations!

I get my eyebrows & upper lip waxed. I swear I have twenty twenty vision for about 1 hour after I get them done.

I keep hearing about laser removal and I am seriously considering it.

You all really should try Body Sugaring.

I use Alexandria Body Sugaring which is available in the drug store. Very easy, very fast, not very painful and if you make a mistake about where you applied it, wash it off and reapply it to the proper spot.

No red bumps. No ingrown hairs. Hair free for 6 weeks or more. And because it only sticks to the hair it's less painful than waxing because wax is applied hot and sticks to the skin too. Sugar is applied warm, not hot. Wonderful stuff.

As far as that "Brazillian" method. There is no way I'm going to go to a salon and expose my nooks and crannies to a stranger and have them rip hair away from there. I'll do that myself with body sugar, thanks very much!!! LOL

Not confessing! I't don't even have that much hair on my upper lip and the little there is is blonde. I just hate hair in the wrong places! I'd be delighted if I only had head hair, eyebrows and eye lashes.

in a pile of open toed shoes!
I get my eye brows & lip waxed....I never used to, but then DH was joking & said something about a mustache when we were playing around....I thought I was gonna die. SO I suffer greatly through the waxing, and I cry every time. And I'm beat red.....but my SIL gave me this really expensive stuff that's fabulous for the redness, it only stays red about 30 minutes....I don't have the name now, but she got the girl at her salon to give her one of the sample tubes that they give out to paying customers, and I cherish it.

I could NEVER get my bikini waxed.....my skin gets irritated if my panty hose are crooked, I get sore along my panty line....there's NO WAY anyone is pouring hot was anywhere near there....let alone ripping the hair out too!

Marishka,

For eye brow threading they basically use sewing thread to trim, thin out and shape your eye brows.

Thanks so much! It sounds neat...I'll def look into it. I waxed my brows today, and I gotta admit, I'd love to find an alternative. I bled a little today! Ah! Do you find that most hair removal shops do it, or should I look specifically for an esthetician or something?
