My cat Jackson is 5 years old and has been fixed since he was a kitten. Recently he started spraying furniture and walls. I've taken him to the vet to make sure there was nothing wrong with him and there wasn't. I've tried Feliway and it didn't work. I do have 2 other male cats, also fixed, but Jackson has lived with them for more than 4 years now and has never sprayed before. I noticed he started doing this when I had to put my 15 year female cat to sleep because of cancer.

Is there anything I can do to get him to stop? I don't want to find a new home for him, but unless I can get him to stop I might have to.

*BUMP*

I think he's missing his friend...Maybe you could spend more time with him and do tell him that his lady friend is now in a better place...

I had the same problem with my male cat. Started spraying at age 3. We tried everything, including 3 types of anti-depressants, Feliway plug-ins and sprays, etc, etc. If you want to try the pharmaceutical route, the sooner the better because once the habit becomes ingrained, NOTHING will stop it. Unfortunately, that was our problem, so last January after EIGHT years of our home smelling like a giant litterbox, we made the decision to euthanize our cat because rehoming him would not be the right thing to do to him or the new owners (as if anyone would WANT a peeing cat!) and making him an outside cat would also not be good.

I'm not suggesting you put him down, just letting you know how BAD it can get if not stopped ASAP. For us, it was the right decision as he was finally at peace (had some other psyche issues as well) and we could finally relax in our own home after living almost a decade on edge.

I wish you much success with this troubling problem.

Are you certain it's spraying and not peeing??
