What should I do with the outside cat shelter I bought and can't use?

Ok, to make a long story short. When I was feeding Harley outside I bought an outside shelter from IndyFeral.org and somehow had it in my mind to put it outside somewhere near my condo...then I found out the area is beeing monitored by cameras...theres more...but to make the story short I have the cat shelter right here in my living room still in the box unassembled. I since trapped the feral and he's here and I have no storage space for this cat house- my husband wants it out. I've tried posting ads in a local paper and craigs list and no one is interested - It's $45. I even write to Alley Cat allies and so far no response...It is bitter cold in Chicago and I can't believe no one would be interested in providing shelter for an outdoor cat? My last resort is to give it away free but animal shelters won't take it since their policy is no cat should be outside anyway. Any ideas on what to do??

There's no place like home
Find a group that does TNR in your area and see if they will take it. Feral caretakers are always looking for outdoor shelters for their cats.

TNR1 - do you have a list for the Chicagoland area? (I just pinged her for you)

Fighting for ferals in NW NJ!
Give pets911.com a try. Type in your zip and click on the shelters/orgs link on the left... and just start calling, I guess!

I really hope you can find a place that would like the shelter before you have to get rid of it! That's really thoughtful of you.

And congrats on trapping and bringing Harley inside!

Great news... A lady just called from where I put the note on the cat and said it was her cat. She has a cat door and the cat comes and goes.... so I wont be needing the cat house. I'm sorry.

WOW! I would love to have an outdoor shelter...I nhave a family of 3 and various assorted other ferals that I feed. It's so cold outside and although I have rigged up a litle area for them, it's sadly lacking!

Have you found somewhere for yours, yet? Even if you have...you've given me an idea for them!
:

I never thought of trying to find an inexpensive one somewhere!

Thanks, carolann
