When I first saw him I thought it was a British Short hair because he looks precisely like the one that I had. But I guess I am terribly lacking in knowlege about the difference between the two. I have a feeling that domestic could be any country since any domesticated cat would be a domestic. Now you know why I am confused.Originally Posted by Jen
A very pretty DSH.
British Shorthair is a particular pedigree breed of cat (as is Siamese, Burmese, Russian Blue etc). Domestic shorthair just means any shorthaired mixed breed cat. And yes, domestic shorthair means the same in Britain as it does in the US - a shorthaired cat of mixed/unknown parentage with no pedigree or papersOriginally Posted by Persi

That makes me so sad. He sounds like a divine kitty, and I have no doubts but that he will thrive under your care.Originally Posted by Wolvena
His name is Artoo. I got him from the humane society. Every cat's papers there said either domestic long hair, or domestic short hair. I figured he is probably, in fact, a run of the mill domestic short haired, but he has very slanted almond shaped eyes, and a longer than average head, so I thought there may be some specific breed in him that someone might be able to pick out. No one wanted the poor bugger, but I cant imagine why. He spent 1.5 months in a cage. I think he was also abused before he got there. I lifted my hand over him to open the curtains for him and he cringed like I was going to hit him. He also has his whiskers cut off on one side of his face. It breaks my heart to think he may have suffered, but he will be forever happy and loved now.
