Then you were very fortunate. Yes, it allows for a peek in the future, but kittens do have a tendency to change depending on the influences they encounter. I raised a litter of three kittens this summer and they completely turned around. The quiet one turned into a go-go kitten, the fat and lazy one is now the small, shy one, and the third one was incredibly curious. She still is, but now she is the most easy-going kitten you could imagine, while her curiosity made her a real pain to raise when still a young kitten.

Breeds though, often have a more predictable character. They are, afterall, bred that way. But with your average variety of stray kittens, you dont always know what you might get. And a lot of it has to do with education. The reason i now have an easy going kitten is because she grew up in a household with 4 other cats, all ranking higher than her in the hierarchy of things. So she decided that the only way to beat them, was to outcharm them, therefore becoming the cutest fluffy little easygoing ball of fur she could be.

Try picking a kitten that will suit the character of your previous cat(ya know, if you have a dominant male, try taking an easy-going submissive, yet playfull and confident, female so your household will be in balance, trust me, otherwise you ll go mad before things finally settle down), and finally, trust your gut. Do not go for the boisterous outgoing one that checks you out immediately, at least not before you checked out the rest of the litter. Take your time to assess all kittens and look beyond the surface. You ll find they all have their interesting traits and you ll find the one that is most appealing to you.

Hi all, I went there and when I first saw all of them the first one that caught my eye is not the one I brought home. We just sat in chairs and talked about a hour and a half and I just watched them all. Cozmo was not the first one to come to me, Jack was, which is the one that I liked at first, but after the new thing of me being there wore off Jack went away and hardly noticed I was there, But when they settled down Cozmo climbed on my lap and laid there real peaceful and let me pet him and he just purred away. He also reminded me a little of Tuffy the more I was there, in that he does what he wants and don't let things bother him to much. He has a bit of a attitude sometimes if you try and pick him up when he don't want to be and tells me about it, just like Tuffy used to.

The girl I got him from emailed me tonight and said the someone came and adopted Jack soon after I left with Cozmo, so it was meant to be I guess.

He is sleeping right in front of me in the old beat up cat bed that Tuffy slept in allot right in front of Tuffy's favorite window. I think he will be a good kitty cat for me to have. I know he won't be a Tuffy, any more than Tuffy can be a Cozmo, but he seems so far to have allot in common with Tuffy though.

awe cozmo is such a cutie
, I am soo happy that you found the kittie you wanted and you did wait a little bit in order to make your choice, we did the same thing when we got stormie although she was the only kitten but if she wasn't how she was we werent going to get her we would of kept looking but we fell and love and she came right over after we found her (she was playing with the other cats) and then she relized we were there and it was on
she was sweet and playful and she purred right away ! I am just soo glad that everything is going good for you
Hope it stays that well !!!!

Congratulations on Cosmo. He won't be a Tuffy, but he will be Cosmo, and he sounds like he's temperamentally right for the job.

He has allot of Tuffy in him, I had to get up early this morning because I forgot to take the garbage out last night and Cozmo sat by the back door and waited for me to come back in and he "talked" to me about leaving him alone just like Tuffy used to when he was feeling good. He is also real fussy in the litter box like Tuffy was, he has to dig a nice hole in the litter and when he is done he is real careful to cover everything up real nice, and he tries to cover up what the other cats don't cover very good.

I think I picked the right one to bring home, he laid on my chest in bed tonight until Yvonne's snoring scared him away.

The younger girl kitty was real nice to me also, she looks just like our Angel does and is just as crazy and a trouble maker as Angel is. The owner said she was shocked the the girl took to me so soon, she said she normally stays away from strangers. I liked all the kittens, I am glad I waited there as long as I did before I picked one. Like I said Jack was the first one to catch my eye when I first saw all of them, and maybe he would have been a great kitty cat also, but as I sat there and watched them all, and she was telling me about all of them and how each one was when around her I changed my mind to Cozmo.

You would never believe he has only been here a few hours, He is so calm about all the new cats and people and a new house that is a total mess compared to the nice clean house he came from.
He has his own cat nap spots all pick out already, and checked out all the tons of cat toys the other cats have, I only had to show him the litter boxes one time and he went right to them when he needed to, he found all the water dishes I have out for the animals all on his own. He don't sit and beg for food when I eat like all the other cats do, which Tuffy never did either. Maybe he will be calm enough to go in the motor home this summer with us camping like Tuffy loved to do, then I will have a new camper kitty.

Sorry to go on and on about this, I was worried that I shouldn't have got another cat after Tuffy died, but this morning I am glad I did. Yvonne was disappointed that he is so big already, she likes the little kittens, But he is big enough to take care of himself and I don't have to baby sit him all the time like I would have with a little baby kitty with all the other cats and a dog in the house. He still has enough kitten in him yet to be funny and get the crazies.

Tom W, you sound so happy and pleased.
It's great that the transition in his new home with new cats is going so smoothly. It sounds like it was just meant to be.

He is doing great, he is a total pain in the butt sometimes though,
He won't let me do anything if he wants attention, and he climbs all over everything knocking stuff down on the floor, and he has the tails chewed off all the cat toys that have tails or had tails.

He is very aware of what goes on around here, any odd noise his ears perk up and he has to go see what is going on. Angel and Rusty had a pretty bad disagreement yesterday, Cozmo didn't know what to think of that.

Cozmo has figured out that Missy's bark is worse than her bite, so when Missy acts off at him he gives it right back.
Cozmo took Tuffy's old chair away from Missy today, its where Tuffy used to sleep most of the time next to my side of the bed.

He is not or ever will be Tuffy, but he has allot of the same personality in him, He follows me around and "talks" to me if I don't pick him up and he is just as stubborn as Tuffy used to be. I am so glad I got Cozmo, he is [so far] the cat I was hoping he would be towards me. He seems to totally trust me like Tuffy used to. He has a fit if anyone else picks him up but he loves it when I carry him around the house, also just like Tuffy was.

Yvonne don't like the name Cozmo though, I thought it was a cool name for him plus it is on all his records I got for adopting him, so I am not going to change it. I have no idea what other name would fit him anyways.
