Sandy, who is almost 2 yrs, has started to tear from both eyes this winter. It started about 4 weeks ago when the rains came -- and in Seattle, these are daily rains that last for weeks. This November was the wettest in the history of Seattle!

Anyway: we took her to the vet and she checked out just fine, we got these drops to prevent any infection but there was no blockage or anything ominous that our very skilled vet could see. She doesn't tear when she's inside, but only when she's outside or after she comes in from playing, for about an hour. But it hasn't gone away. It's clear, never infected or cloudy. Her eyesight remains perfect. She neither demonstrates she is bothered by it nor does she paw her eyes. Nobody has been able to figure this out. ....maybe "winter saturated air allergies"??? She is part Lab, Shepherd, and Border Collie. Yup that's her, lower right photo, Miss Personality.

And yes, she is wonderful to "her" kitties.
Sammy has long conversations with her and she loks at me like she has no clue what he's saying...but I know she secretly does.

any help???

Hmmm.... I've not had that with my dogs. My thought would be allergies but I really don't know. My eyes water for no reason lately. If I didn't know the weather had been so yucky there, I'd ask if it were dry out.

That's what I was thinking! Our house is very dry inside, therma-pane windows, everything is very dry, but western Washington has huge mold issues and it makes sense. When out on a hike at Mt. Rainier, for example, you literally can see a soft white fuzz on some leaves on certian plants - all mildew, mold, etc .

Sounds like allergies, call your doctor and see if it's ok to give her a little benadryl. And see if that helps to stop her wattering eyes. If not, there are certain gentetic eye disorders linked with the breeds you mentioned she's mixed with- you might want to talk to a canine opthmologist about it

I know some dogs who will get teary-eyed when they're stressed, but I doubt this is the case for yours. If it's not affecting her, I would leave it and see if it gets better during the warmer months. But if you're worried, you could call your vet and ask about benadryl (as someone else posted). If it's an allergy that *should* take care of it. Is she loosing any fur? Some allergies manifest themselves that way... as long as she's healthy and happy and not showing any other symptoms I wouldn't worry too much about it. She's an ADORABLE girl!

Nope, she's not losing fur. And she's SO happy all the time, always happy, always obedient, she's just a lovey. Very atheletic, runs like the wind and loves the snow. Sharky said she had better luck on a home made diet, whcih then got me thinking about food allergies....
