These kitties story is on my home page: http://www.petfinder.com/shelters/WA324.html
But I have a question - these 3 have been eating dog food and God knows what else, and they poop ALOT and it's very runny. Not smelly like coccidia but very loose and ALOT of it.
We gave them yogurt last night but there's not been much improvement.
They are eating Felidae now.
I did worm them yesterday.
What can I do for cat diarrhea?

OMG! Those poor cats & dogs....will anything happen to the person/people who left them there?

Whenever cats or dogs have loose stools at the shelter here, we feed them Science Diet i/d. However, if I am remembering right, it isn't very high calorie, so might not be the best way to go. I know there are also probiotics you can buy....I know I've seen them on www.drsfostersmith.com Also, check with the vets in your area to see if they carry probiotics.

Hopefully all of those cats & dogs pull through OK to find their furrever homes!

I could not find their ages on the webpage, but if they are young kittens, they need to see a vet, asap.

One thing that I know can help with loose stools is canned pumpkin. But, I would have them checked regardless.

A lot of folks swear by the pumpkin. It has to be the plain canned pumpkin though - NOT the pie filling pumpkin. You should be able to find it in the canned vegetable and fruit section (at least that's where it is here) rather than in the baking section where they have the pie fillings.

Thanks for clarifying Yosemite, I forgot about the filling type stuff they sell, you definitely don't want that. It really does help, I have used it in the past. Only about 1-2 teaspoons per day. However, I have only used it when I noticed a loose stool, not a watery one. So, if it is more than just loose once or twice, I would definitely be taking them to the vet.

I think that having just had their shots and been wormed besides a drastic food change that their little bodies are just having a hard time adapting. The pumpkin may help. Someone else here also recommends apple pectin.

Either of those and some time to adapt to the food along with making sure they are hydrated well should take care of the problems. Many cats will develop diarrhea with sudden food changes and worm meds.

Your story is enough to bring tears. I hope you can get those poor cats and dogs healthy and in loving forever homes.

Bless you for the work you do. You're an angel!

Well I know any of you would have done it too, faced with the same situation! There was nothing else to do

Koko, the mom cat, was seen and has had her hernia repaired, been spayed and tested - for FeLv!

The kittens are really doing well, still have soft stools. I'll try the pumpkin!
They are hungry today, I've switched them (not good I know but dunno what else to do) from Felidae to Maxximum which may be less rich and make them less sick. They DO have less diarrhea today it seems!

If you want them to ultimately be on Felidae, you can start mixing it in their food slowly till the change over is complete.
