I am a first time cat owner, having adopted a "teenage" stray. She is a calico and we love her already. We have had her for about two months. We took her to the vet for the first time on November 22. She got a clean bill of health, immunizations, and is being treated for some ear mites. Lately she is sleeping a lot more, lethargic, and not as playful. She also has a weird "meow", it almost sounds like she is hoarse. Should I be worried? Thanks in advance for any advice.

CONGRATULATIONS on your new family member.

I would not worry too much since she was just seen by the vet, but I would call your vet and let him/her know what is going on. She may have picked up a little virus but it is better to be safe.

Best of Luck!

I, too, am a first-time cat owner whose first vet gave the new cat a clean bill of health.

You should call the vet and report the symptoms at once if the cat is behaving differently and making different noises.

On the second inspection (by a different vet) my cat was revealed as an asthmatic with a heart condition.

I hope that you don't have anything to worry about, but better safe than sorry.

From my experience, calicos and torties have a 'raspy' meow. lol. If she's eating and drinking, using the litterbox normally I wouldnt worry too much but it wouldnt hurt to call the vet to make sure.
