Lately Shami's behavior's been worrying me. He's becoming more nippy and aggressive when he plays. I thought that maybe letting him wrestle with stuffed toys or strings might "sate" his urge to bite things, but I think that just riles him up even more and he keeps wanting to bite my hands and feet.

I've been trying to get him to stop by putting him in his carrier for a 5 min time out everytime he bites me, but I don't think that's working too well. I also tried stopping whatever I was doing at the moment and just completely ignoring him, but then he'll just bite harder to get my attention.

I think this is what you call that "testing" stage. I really would like to prevent him from turning into a cat that bites everything that moves. Anyone have any ideas?

Keep your hands as still as possible when you have no choice but to be near him, and keep them otherwise out of his range. I know it's really frustrating to want to pet him, etc., but it's only asking for trouble (right now, til he gets past the stage).

We keep a spray bottle of water handy and everytime Boots started getting a bit "rough" we told him to stop if he didn't he got sprayed. He doesn't bite anymore!!

On the odd occassion he might try to attack feet in the morning but he's so cute now, he doesn't use claws or teeth - he just licks them a lot whilst holding on with his paws!!
