I'm taking my cat with me to my parents for three weeks over Christmas and would like to keep her restricted to my bedroom, hallway, and bathroom, except that there's not a door I can close off that area with. Though they like my cat, mom and dad aren't exactly thrilled about the idea of a shedding creature with claws running all over their clean house with new furniture! Any thoughts on how to keep my kitty in one area? A makeshift door? Teach her (quickly) not to wander down the hall? I'm hoping to keep this little change in routine as stress-free as possible for all involved

Thanks!

There's no door to your bedroom? Just keep her in there. When my friend brought her kittens home with her, they built a simple doorframe with a screen door and propped it up in the hallway. Hard to just explain it but I have no way show you a picture or anything.

Or you can stack up baby gates but that is such a pain when you need to get into that area.

A cat can get over a baby gate.

I recommend that you either get a sliding door (a cheap one) at a hardware store, or leave it in your bedroom exclusively. You should bring a familiar scratching post for the cat, too.

Fur can be vacuumed up.

I believe the poster suggested stacking a couple baby gates which would stop the cat from getting over one.

It would also prevent people from going anywhere in the house. And the cat can get out while you're wrestling baby gates.

I don't know about yours, but my cat thinks nothing of pulling a heavy wooden door open by simply hooking her paw underneath and yanking. Gizmo weighs eight pounds.

A cat won't be able to open a baby proof gate, but can probably push between two of them and get over or between 'em.
