I got Bickford yesterday - he's a neutered 8 year old Maine Coon mix. I have him in my bedroom now, separated from Bob. I'm a little confused, as sometimes Bickford lets me pet him and other times he just hisses. I've been lucky in the past that the introduction time went quick and smooth. Is there any way to make this easier?

He may hiss when you pet him if you've recently petted the other cat, or put on hand lotion, or don't smell like fish :-), probably mostly the former, but he's also just nervous of the new environment and you're not his regular keeper. Give him time, he should be fine, but it can take weeks (he is 8 yrs).

The good news is that Bickford doesn't hiss at me every time I enter the bedroom. The bad news is that when given the opportunity to explore the apartment he choses to remain on the bed. I think I'll pick him up and take him out into the living room (and have Bob in the bathroom or bedroom while this takes place).
