Ok Ive had Nazumi for a week and a couple days now. Hes gained 2 lbs. He's 9 months old has a grade 3 heart murmur. I was wondering if I should be worried about how fast he is gaining weight. He was severely malnurished when I got him and hes still thin. But I was wondering if its ok to gain that much weight that fast. He eats 2 cans of Instinctive Choice http://www.healthypetnet.com/Healthy...FSLrPgodnGpapQ
and 1 cup of Blackwood Kitten dry http://blackwoodpetfood.com/bwkitten.htm

Does it sound like he's gaining to much weight to fast to you?

2 pounds would be relative to what he weighs; for instance, if a five pound cat gained two pounds he would have gained 40%,but if the cat weighed say 12 pounds, then it would be less than a 17% gain. So, we would need to know what he weighed before his weight gain. My cat shot from 6 to 7/12 pounds at age six months, a gain of 25%. Right now he does not seem to be gaining any weight at all. The other thing to consider is how you weigh your cat, if you are holding your cat and weighing your selves together, this is highly inaccurate. I have tried this two times in a row and by holding him in a different position, I got a one pound difference. I use a baby scale like you will see at the vets to get an exact reading. Of course his weight is also dependent on what breed he is. The other variable of course is how much he is being fed. In the case of my cat I was estatic that he had gained 25% in a month, but then he does not have a heart murmor so as with a lot of other things, your vet is your best source for this.

Nazumi was 9 1/2 lbs. I have a vet scale that I bought from my vet when she got a new one. It is accurate. Nazumi is a Abysinian (sp?) mixed with either Bengal or Oriental Shorthair. The person had all 3 breeds and mom was a pure bred Abby.
