I recently took in an incontinent cat. She's wonderful and sweet and I very much want her to have the run of the house. She's incontinent due to a severe tail injury, and had to have her tail amputated.

So I'm looking for experiences, ideas, and advice from others who have had similar kitties. She is currently confined to one room in the house that is easy to clean up, but I want her to be part of the family. The problem is that she refuses to wear diapers. I've tried kitty diapers, doggy diapers, and huggies for kids (they fit great and are cheaper than pet diapers!), and she can get out of all of them. No matter what, she can take them off. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to keep these diapers on her? I certainly can't use super glue!

My next thought is to put a body suit type thing on her that goes from neck to butt, and she could wear the diaper under it, and hopefully then she couldn't slip out of the diaper. Has anyone tried something like this or know where I can get kitty clothing made? Or maybe something made for a human baby would work? If I have time, I think it would be fun to design something for her myself, but I'm pretty busy these days and I wanted to get ideas from other people first.

The only thought I have is to contact some manx breeders and ask for suggestions. Manx (totally tailless) have some problems along those lines - I know breeders have had elimination problems at times.

Just email them and explain the situation and see if you get some responses.

Have you tried contacting any rescues or Humane Societies in your area(TC metro) to see if they have any other suggestions?

I know I had to use suspenders to keep the diaper on my doggie when she had incontinence issues. I didn't know if you had tried that yet or not. I sur ehope you can figure something out....not a lot of people want an incontinent cat...poor girl. Do you know how she suffered a tail injury?

I don't have anything to add, I just wanted to say that I think you're being an incredible kitty parent to take this girl in!

I've adopted her, so she will be here as a pampered kitty for the rest of her life. She was found in a dumpster with her tail severely damaged. They thought maybe someone had tried to cut her tail off... but it's hard to know if it was on purpose or an accident, but someone did dump her in the trash. And she's still a lover after all that. Very sweet cat. I just don't want her to have to spend all her time stuck in one room, but I sure don't want her leaking poop all over the house either! Thanks for your responses!

I know nothing about this other than I've heard of something called Stud Pants for unneutered male cats. I agree with contacting a Manx breeder. You are wonderful to take this baby in! So many people would look right past her.

Bless you for taking care of her! She's really lucky to a great mommy! When my Sam lost control of his back legs and couldn't walk. We used baby diapers about size 5 for him and then to keep the diaper on we used horse wrap. You can buy it at Petsmart or any feedstore. We just wrap it around his belly a few times and make sure the the top of the diaper stuck out over it.

It sticks only to itself and not to the animal. Try it.. it might help.

The vet wrap is a great idea, so I went out and bought some right away! We tried it last night and the diaper is still on! Great idea! Thanks!

Great! I'm glad it worked. I know we tried a few different things, before the discovering the wrap.
