I'm from Syracuse, NY (well, not exactly, but I did grow up there) - there are a lot of fun things to see and do there, depending on what exactly you're looking for.

I adored my trip to Washington D.C. - it was amazingly beautiful, something wonderful and interesting happened every time I walked down a street, and people were SO polite. I didn't have a bad experience in New York, but I didn't like it either... but D.C. was perfect.

If you wait until the spring Mammoth Cave in Kentucky is really cool they have the longest caves in the world some go all the way to arizona, I studied Kentucky history and geography in high school, and Land Between the Lakes is wonderful. They have a huge wildlife preserve and have an old timey town where people dress like the early settlers and live like they did. And it has great little shops. And hense the name two lakes one on either side. And the fishing and the beaches on both lakes are great. And in TN there is the smokey mountians and Dollywood
All of which are very beautiful but in the winter its best to go to Land Between the Lakes if it starts snowing it gets pretty cold here and the we have what we call black ice. But otherwise its great place to visit and even better place to live

the florida keys, Key west, are great. If you are into birdwatching the west coast of florida, sanibel island is supposed to be great. I always wanted to check out seattle. NYC is definitely worth a trip.

thanks for the great ideas so far

Dan isnt into adventure..isnt into going out to clubs with me..only his friends, he doesnt like exotic food and hates shoping. Boy what bum hunh?

I love educational places like muesums, historic sites etc. I lOVE Washington D.C. but he doesnt feel up for that. I would like some place beachy like Key West FL but I need to persuade him it isnt for old foggies! whats hip there to do? lol

I also like outdoorsy types of things.. I am well rounded when it comes to activities so like just about anything.

You can get lots of history in New England. There are plenty of outdoorsy things to do also.

Hmm. What's more or less close to Wisconsin? My immediate reaction is "cheese"!
Chicago/the Great Lakes? Canada? Do you have any Indian reservations nearby? How about factory outlets?

HELLO!!!
I totally wanted to go to Boston or Virgina...my bf just laughed!
I think virgina would be very educational!

I dont mind driving or flying.
I want to go to some place where I can drink mixed drinks all day and put my stubby toes in the sand...he doesnt. So since i am stuck in the states I suggested Flordia or Cali...naaaa to party-ish for dan and not some place he wants to go with just his girlfriend. soooo, I am thinking maybe texas or virgina possible New Orleans.

you guys have no idea how much of weenie dan is!

Virginia is a beautiful place, no matter what season you visit. There are mountains if you prefer the nature stuff, there are beaches if you like the ocean, D.C. is just 3 hours' drive pretty much from anywhere in the state, there's Colonial Williamsburg, Jamestown Settlement, fishing, golf, amusement parks, loads of Civil War history ... and Richmond has some great restaurants/clubs/nightlife/culture if you are into any of those things.

I also really loved Boulder, CO and I like going up Michigan's UP and the Traverse City area. I used to go to Interlochen...there are a lot of state parks and vineyards and shops and the lakeshore is gorgeous
