Since Freckles died Bob has liked to sleep on my pillow, and now he's taking it one step further. He actually licks my hair! I'm taking as a sign that he views me as an honorary cat. Or maybe he's just attracted to the scent of my shampoo. Is this a common behavior?

He views you as an honorary cat. My DiddoKahli always washed my hair for me at night. She has passed now three years and I would give everything I own just to have her here with me, washing my hair. Even though I got no sleep.

You know, cats purr automatically, but they CHOOSE who they will lick. It is quite an honor.

Bella grooms her Daddy and I a lot. Not our hair, but any exposed skin she can get her wet little tongue onto. It's a rough awakening sometimes, when she goes for our faces, but I think it's cute. Just watch that your kitty doesn't swallow any long hairs, because they could be just as bad as tinsel in her intestines.

I think it's a sign of trust, since she started about a week after I adopted her, and it took a long time for her to start grooming daddy, since he was in a different state than us for about a year.

Milla likes to groom peoples hair too. She does it especially if I have some kind of hairspray etc. in my hair. Of course she has to clean me up then if I'm dumb enough not to do it myself.

It's a bit annoying (but at the same time endearing) sometimes (in the middle of night, trying to sleep) and she just won't give up, when she's decided to groom. I actually have to cover my head if I want some peace.

Duke is like this with me. He kneads my hair as well. If I pick my head up off the pillow, he just sits there patiently until I put it back where its supposed to be so he can resume his work. You're right, it IS annoying, but its terribly sweet too

I have a cat that licks everybodies hair. I agree it is annoying at night. But my cat takes it one step further. He licks stuffed animals and grooms our dog too.

This is interesting as I just got through reading another post on this forum about a person who licks their cat's hair! There used to be a popular song called MUTUAL ADMIRATION SOCIETY and I think this is what we have here.
