Okay, so Anya's spay appointment is tomorrow so I'm not overly concerned because I'm going to ask the vet about it tomorrow.

I caught her a day or so ago dragging her butt on the floor outside of her litter box You know, pulling herself along with her front legs. I know from reading here that it could be worms or that she needs her anal glands expressed, but could she need them expressed at only 6 months??? Her anal area doesn't appear swolen or irritated.

And I've poked around in her litter box and don't think it could be worms because her feces doesn't appear to have anything in it.

Could it just be that her stool was a little looser than usual so rather than licking off the "debris" she's wiping it on the floor? I cleaned a smelly skidmark off my wood floor this morning where it looks like she did it again...

ALSO - since her spay is tomorrow, if anyone has any informative links so that I understand what exactly is going to happen to my baby tomorrow. I always feel less stressed out when I'm educated and have details. And vibes for a successful surgery would be nice too.
They're also unclogging a tear duct in her eye while they have her under anesthesia. Thanks!

You know, sometimes I swear cats are psychic. They know when something is going on. I'll bet she sat up all night just planning on how she was going to trip your trigger before you brought her to be spayed. LOL

I am not sure about the butt dragging, could be anything. Could be an itch, could be cling-ons, could be anything.

As for the spay, they will obviously put her under anesthesia, do the spay surgery and then stitch her up. You also said that she was going to have eye surgery? That may mean that she will be under the anesthesia a little longer than for just a spay.

That also translates into perhaps a longer coming out of the anesthesia....say instead of being pretty wide awake in 4 hours, she may need 6 or 8. It usually is recommended that you keep them quiet once you get home (good luck) but if she is really dopey, keep her in her carrier until she looks much more alert.

One or two of my females had to be kept in the carrier overnight because I didn't like they way they looked, really dopey. Others, like Tammy-Timmy were trying to bounce out of the carrier before we got home. Each cat is so individual as to their reactions to the medications.

PS: I have heard of anal glands in both males and females. I have NEVER encountered a problem with them. I don't understand what they are or what they do. Sorry about that.

It wouldn't hurt to take a stool sample with you when you take her to be spayed. Not all parasites are visible to the naked eye.

She could have been scooting if a turd managed to get stuck to her backend after she used the litterbox. It's more common for it to happen to longer-haired cats with very fuzzy bottoms, but no one is immune to the klingon.

Teddy never showed any type of obvious problem with his butt - except for the dragging stuff. It turned out that he definitely needed one of his anal glands expressed. It doesn't hurt to have it checked out.

Her vet is one that insists on keeping her overnight after the spay, and I pick her up around 10:00 am the next morning. So she shouldn't be dopey anymore when I get her.

I'll see if there is a stool sample in her litter box tomorrow morning. Does it matter to the vet if its covered in clumping cat litter?? I guess they expect that huh?
