Folks, I rarely post on any message boards but Im asking for a little help today and I figured this is the best route to take. Im worried because my kitty (8 years old) goes to his litter box and doesnt do anything...he tries ans tries but nothing. He comes to me an meows more than he would do on a regular basis, as if to tell me something is wrong. I know a vet visit would be recomended but I am sooo low on funds that its not even funny....trust me. Worst time for my kitty to get sick...are there any home remedies that I can try? I heard that baby constipation medicine is ok as well as canned pumpkin (high fiber). Please assist me...im at work away from Fat Charlie and im worried as hell

Honey are you sure it is constipation and not urinary distress? That's why vet's visits are recommended so that the proper treatment can get started. You don't want to treat for constipation if you kitty is starting kidney failure.

Is your kitty eating ok? Is he drinking? Have you seen him urinate?

Sorry, but I have to agree - you really just need to get kitty to the vet. It could be crystals in his urine and he'll be suffering greatly and in danger.

oh my, now im really getting worried. didnt think of it as a possible urinary problem.

Thing is, he is in indoor outdoor kitty so he does most, actually all of his business outside. I have a litter box that he never uses, except for the last few days where he has TRIED to use it, with no success. He is eating for sure, and im pretty sure he is drinking water. I have an auto feeder and autodrinker so its a bit harder to monitor but I believe he is.

If it is a urinary issue (such as crystals...more common for males) the situation could become critical very quickly.

Call you vet asap.

If he usually goes outside, the fact that he's now trying to go inside indicates he may be trying to tell you he's not feeling well.

I had a Siamese years ago that never had accidents and then one day she kept calling and calling from the bathroom. I went to check on her and she had urinated in the sink and there was blood in the urine. I guess she was smart enough to do that to let me know she had an infection. I probably would not have noticed it in the clay litter.
