I am probably taking this more personal than I should. I don't even post normally. But I have been looking for a Cornish for months. I finally convinced my husband he didn't need a kitten so I could get an older or rescue. I can't find a rescue that fits because I can't take anouther special need I already have a cardiologist and a dematologist for two of my kids. I finally found a breeder that was registered and had older kittens. I gave my husband the name and number to call and see if we could look at the kittens. The breeder had four and one he said was perfect. My husband doesn't do it until I nag. All of the sudden the breeder has one left and he asked in his e-mail this morning if the others would beat on him. I have no idea what that means but if it is a kit that does not do good with multiple cat he won't do well here. I am not extravagant and I have thought this out to go to a breeder. I am so sad right now. I have been trying for months. I just need to be patient all my kits have come when least expected and not planned.

I agree mutts are the best!
I would love a purebred rottie someday, though and I would adopt one not buy one!
Like I said, I would never buy an animal.. I will always, always adopt.

I currently have one one purebred. And thats Annie Rose she didnt cost me anything my parents on the other hand...... But I got her for free from them. Well not really since her vet bill was HUGE the first few weeks. I would love to sometime get a Bengal. But not for a while! And even then I will go threw a breed rescue.

Wow...they are all so beautiful!
I love Siamese, I'd definately adopt one! I've always wanted a bengal, and I guess if I had the money, I'd definately be contacting Kai Bengals!

I'm on the fence with this one, because I love to see people resucing all the lonely babies at the Shelters, but then again, someday I'd love to have a purebred. Either way, as long as I have a cat in my home, it doesn't matter where it came from, or how much I paid for it - as long as he/she has a loving home

I love siameses too. Lily has siamese in her, Bagheera was siamese/ DSH mix and Kittens mom was a siamese mix. Annie Rose is a Snowshoe but she has some siamese in her. Which is an acceptable thing if I remember right. The only one Ive had that doesnt have siamese in them is Nazumi and hes still a talker. So he fits in well. My Grandma used to breed siameses.

Wow. I knew a lot people have little regard for breeders ... but it is amazing to me to see how many of you really don't have any respect ~at all~ for what we do. Sure, you can say you have respect for "good breeders" and all that, but the fact is that unless you are willing to support breeders and their efforts, your words are just words - and if you don't back them up then they have little to no real value.

We are not just people who produce kittens. Honestly, that is only a small part of what we do. A VERY small part. A lot of us are considered to be experts in our chosen breed, their health issues, behavioral traits, ancestry, you name it, we know it. We've spent years and years on top of more years and even then a few more years to learn what we are required to know. A lot of the breeders I know regularly receive email from people all over the world that has absolutely nothing to do with wanting to actually purchase a kitten. These people have questions about cats of specific breeds, their health issues, behavioral traits, ancestry ... you name it, people ask us about it. We all try to help them find the answers - sometimes taking a ~lot~ of time from our days to do so. And that time isn't spent just answering questions because face it, none of us will ever have ALL the answers ... so then we must do the research, taking even more time out of our days. Isn't that worth at the very least some small scrap of respect?

I refer far more people to breed-specific rescue than I approve for purchase by the way, so of course, I allow that it is most certainly OK for people to prefer to adopt from a shelter or rescue. But don't say you support breeders in one breath and then say you would never buy a kitten from one in the next because that isn't support.

for the short time i have been hanging out around here at night, This subject always seems to cause some heated mmm answers.

its always seems some people just cant accept people taste and wants are different then others. what does it matter just so pet gets a home.

How i love the looks of siameses(my sister had one for years and years), bengals just looks so cool and very playful. etc. something good can be said for each type. How i would like to have , and i have toyed with the idea of it. I can not part with the money being asked. And with all the free cat signs i see on the way home, i dont even need go to the local APL to get. Where you now have to pay 75 dollars for one. But i still go there cause at least some of the money will be used to help other cats and dogs coming in.

I don't know. I think I would rather get a cat or dog from a rescue, or take in a stray (it seems like I am a magnet for those lol). But I can see myself paying that much for a bird.
I didn't buy him but Charlie (macaw) cost around 1500 in the store... think my dad got him a little cheaper because he knew the store owner. I think that they are cheaper from a breeder but still kind of expensive. I want a green cheek conure and in the stores around here they are around 500$ (around 150$+ from a breeder) and want a african grey..they are around 2000$ in stores and I think around 600-900$ from a breeder and thats just for the birds. Then you have to pay for the big expensive cages and everything to go with them to keep the baby happy then a vet check so yes I can see myself spending that much on an animal lol.

Might be able to get one from a rescue or a rehomed baby but we will see...not planning on getting one any time soon. Think they can still be expensive that way too though.

Well I would buy from a breeder - its all matter of personal choice and how each of us wishes to spend the money we have available. Breeders will always breed - thats what they do ! its not their fault pures end up in shelters.
I dont own a pure, not for any reason really, my cats have come to me unplanned, I am happy with three

Theres probably a lot of things that some people would do that i don't agree to, but at the end of the day it's their life and up to them.

I'm ready to spend £430 just for making my teeth a bit whiter and i know some people would think that the money could be spent on a more worthy cause, but at the end of the day it's my money.

I don't see anything wrong with buying from a breeder, because lets face it theres some stunning pedigrees out there and i'm sure breeders donate to shelters for our ordinary moggies like you and i

We have two Serengeti's and two Bengals. We paid a few bucks in agregate. We have no "papers" with the cats because thats not important to us. Because of threads like this I have chosen a no kill cat shelter. Penquis Animal Welfare Sanctuary in Maine. We donate regularly, Not just five bucks in an envelope...Money they can use. I visited the shelter and did the room to room and saw most of the 60 or so cats. This visit fortified my resoloution to become a champion of the shelter. I suggest no matter what kind of cat you got or where they came from to drop in to your local shelter and see whats going on with these orphaned cats. The experience will surely create another champion for the animals. These shelters need constant support.

Yep thats how I feel and some of the time you even find purebreeds in shelters, but there are so many out there without homes that want to love someone and have someone love them, all my cats are rescues lol a kitty is a kittie that can steal your heart
thats how we got all of these little ones

I applaud Breeders!!
My hubby and I bred Rotties for a few years. We had really good lines also.
I bought his Rottie girl from a breeder and paid a good ammount. So, I CAN'T say that I would NEVER buy from a breeder, as I was one and I see nothing wrong with buying from them.Without breeders, there wouldn't be the wonderful cats that we've all came to love.Even the moogies have some purebred ancestors
.Also DH and I have bought Cockers and paid $$$$ for a purebred.
I would one day LOVE to have a Bengal

I wouldn't buy a purebred..unless I was really rich and had already rescued a bunch of kitties that need homes...So, me I would pay no more than the adoption fee to adopt one from HS or somewhere like that..

Because there are breeders who post on this site, this question is a dicey one. I want to say firstly, that I don't begrudge those who exercise their right of choice and choose to spend so much money on one animal, or those that choose to breed pedigree animals for profit. And that the following is strictly my own opinion.

However, for me I love animals way to much that I just can't justify spending so much money on one animal when that money can be used to save / help many. I'd rather adopt a stray that is homeless, or rescue an animal from a bad situation than to pay to have yet another animal brought into this world while there are so many abandoned and abused ones.
