Hey there!
I'm moving into my first apartment next month. SO for my big christmas present I've asked for a vacuum. I'd like one that is inexpensive, has some (but not many) attachments, and can work on carpet and bare floors.
I've been thinking of just telling my parents to get me a namebrand one between $100-150.
Any suggestions?

I just got a new vaccuum this summer, its a Hoover and I LOVE it!

This is the one I have (yes, its in pretty green too!
)

I should also add that I got it on sale, for $80.00 - they are always on sale usually, originally priced about $120 ish

It has a few attachments, including my favorite - the one made specifically for sucking up cat/dog hair!

You did not say whether you wanted an upright or cannister but CONSUMER REPORTS in the October, 2006 issue gives the following ratings in your price range for uprights (cannisters cost much more).

1. Hoover Tempo widepath $60
2. Hoover EmPower $100
3. Hoover Wind Tunnel Supreme 130
4. Dirt Devil Vision self-propelled $140

As you can see, the lower priced ones were actually rated higher.

we did some looking around and I think that's the one I'm going to get! I don't mind the colours it comes in, and Costco has it in a nice orange tone (my favouite colour). I love the idea of the powered brush, since cat hair is always a little difficult. It's also right in my price range
Thanks for the suggestion.

I recommend a "bagless" vacuum. The kind that has a cannister that works on cyclonic action. Bag vacuums lose suction and the bags are really messy to deal with, not to mention they throw all kinds of dust back into the air.
