Catbabe,

Iâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]m also going to be honest with you, and I KNOW you arenâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]t going to like what I have to say because it will make Kai and Gayes post sound like praises… But I will say that I am not trying to be mean, only saying what I THINK needs to be said…

I think you are too immature and inexperienced to try breeding right now. Iâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]ve read your posts going back thru august. You have had problems trying to get your female Quilt pregnant before. You said you had a male Himalayan that was a show cat. She finally got pregnant, then you were going to spay her (because you said you wanted her to have one litter). Then I guess something happened to the babies? Now she had babies again with a stray and isnâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]t caring for them properly and you donâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]t know what to do. Whatâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]s going on? (unless I misread something)

You questioned why your kittens from your ‘showâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji] cats should be altered if thatâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]s not what their new homes want. Youâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]re trying to bring in a stray (is this the one that got Quilt pregnant?) when your grandmother is about to kill her own cat that you could take in instead. And as others have mentioned, your questions are those of a novice breeder at best.

I am not a breeder, nor will I ever be, BUT if I were going to breed cats, I would be asking my MENTOR and groups for my specific breed all the questions you are asking here on a GENERAL cat website.

Now, I wouldnâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]t call you a BYB, but I would call you irresponsible and you should NOT be breeding cats right now. This is not personal. Iâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]m not trying to hurt your feelings. But its obvious that you donâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]t know much about breeding. I thought your aunt and mom were helping you? I think you should cut your losses now. Donâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]t try to breed these $300/$600 cats. Take care of the kittens you have right now before you go on to try and make new ones. Find some Himalayan breeder sites to ask all your questions. Read A LOT! Ask more questions. Breeding should NOT be a “hit or miss†“learn as you go†process. You have not done your homework and youâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]re trying to play brain surgeon. That is NOT fair to your cats or to other breeders. You are young (LOL, me too, so I speak from youthful experience
). You have PLENTY of time to get ready for this HUGE task of breeding cats. Iâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]m not suggesting you give it up forever, but I am begging you to take a break from the practice and LEARN a lot more before you try this again.

Understand that when you post on a public forum, you will get public opinions. I really wish you all the best with your cats and in your life and I hope you continue to post here and to learn.

Tiffany

I am so glad you have learned from this Hannah!
Sometimes we must buy our lessons and this one I think you have PAID IN FULL!

One thing you might try is going on a yahoo groups list for himalayans. I can help you find one. I belong to a few (for other breeds) and I've learned A LOT and I'm not even trying to breed! Again, I wish you all the best!

If you will truely do what you said (not breed right now), then WHY are you still allowing your cat to be bred? Separate them, neuter/spay them and start over.

If these cats are show quality then put them in the alter classes and grand them. Otherwise, keep them as pets and do a ton more in research. IMO it doesn't seem that your mother/aunt are helping you out. If they know what they are doing, they could have sold you cats that do well.

What cattery are their cats? Do they have a website? What lines are their cats from? How recent are their "grands"? If your cats parents/grandparents are not grand champions, then you probably have mediocor cats that will not get past champion.

Like I said before, champion is easy to get - grand is NOT - and if your cats are not grand material they should not be bred. You said you've been helping out for 5 yrs - IMO you haven't learn a whole lot as your posts indicate otherwise.

So stop playing around and take the time to be serious about things. Learn what a GOOD breeder should and shouldn't do; especially when it comes to selling kittens and why they need to be neutered/spayed and not let the new owners decide what they want to do with them. And one more thing. When you DO get into serious breeding DO NOT BREED CATS UNLESS YOU HAVE A WAITING LIST FOR KITTENS!

Your posts tell me you don't know as much about breeding as you think you do. Like I said, IF you cat's are grand material, then show them in the alter class and prove it.

I've been showing enough years that I could very easily evaluate your himmis by some good photographs. What lines are they out of? How many grands and where (how far back) are these grands?

Read my post and answer some of the questions I've asked of you.

catbabe, I hope you take tiffanyjbt up on her offer to assist you.

I think if catbabe is taking steps in the right direction then that is encouraging and should be encouraged. We've all been young once, and some of may still be (myself excluded
) A step in the right direction and support of her learning more I imagine would be most helpful.

I took a look at the website. I will apoligize for some of my harsher comments. You do have some pretty good cats
The only thing I'd like to see is your breeder cats (males and females) having more then champion status. Many of them on the sires page are not even shown.

You have decent quality and some good background cats - I recognize a few of the persian/himi catteries.

Hopefully you will do more studying on the pedigrees and type of cats and get out and show more. You learn more by taking your cats out in competition then sitting at home just breeding. But please, in the future, have PLANNED litters and a waiting list for those kittens.

With all of my rex litters I had a waiting list (sometimes up to 10 people) before I even bred the females. And except for one or two kittens, all of the kittens born were show quality - tho most went to pet homes.

In CFA (US and Japan) you need 6 winner ribbons to Champion from at least 4 different judges and 200 points to grand.
